Emily then came to us for her year 10 work experience. Emily also spent time volunteering with us during her school holidays. Developing a passion Emily completed her Certificate III and Diploma as traineeships with us at Shaw Street. Over this time Emily has nurtured and cared for our little ones with so much love, developing fantastic relationships with children, families and staff. Emily will be extremely missed by us all. Happy Mothers Day to all of our Shaw Street Mums, nans, aunty's and special people! Shaw street flower shop was a buzz this week and our little ones were all busy crafting some beautiful gifts. Wishing everyone a lovely day!
This week was a heartfelt journey into the history and significance of Anzac Day. The children engaged in various activities, each designed to help them understand and reflect on this important day in a meaningful way.
Our children have enjoyed some fun incursions this year so far with ‘Mr. Bamboozle’ and ’It’s a mad world’. Both fun, interactive and engaging shows that explored the concepts friendship, diversity, and persistence and confidence.

This week has been an exciting journey into the celebration of Chinese New Year at Shaw Street.
Art sessions with the magpies showed immense enthusiasm as they dipped their little fingers into red and yellow paint making vibrant patterns on paper. The children's curiosity peaked as we cooked fried rice together. They took turns stirring the rice, sniffing the aromas, and adding vegetables, encouraging open-mindedness towards different cuisines and cultures.
The highlight of the week was undoubtedly the Chinese dragon dance and the cultural costume dress-ups. The children’s eyes lit up as they tried on the colourful costumes. Music and movement times were full of scarf and dragon dances. This lively activity not only promoted physical development through movement and coordination but also deepened their appreciation for another culture's traditional practices.
Last Wednesday 13th we celebrated our Preschool Graduation. It was beautiful night as we recognised many of our children who are leaving Shaw Street to begin their next exciting journey at big school.
We would like to wish them all the best for the future.
Last Thursday the Cockatoos went on an excursion to the Riverina Community College. We had a fun morning as the children participated in a print making workshop with some of the clients. Our artworks looked amazing.
Thanks to Leanne and everyone at The Art Factory.
Last Tuesday we celebrated our Children’s Christmas Party. We had a huge crowd and everyone looked like they enjoyed themselves. The concert was fantastic and we even had a visit from Santa.
We would like to wish all our families a very Merry Christmas and a safe and happy New Year.
See you in 2024 🎄🎅🧑🎄
Today at Shaw Street, the Cockatoos engaged in a very important safety program. The program is called ‘Living Safely with Dogs’ and is run by the NSW government. The program caters for preschool children and is all about teaching children about dog safety. It provides the children with the skills and knowledge when it comes to warning signs given by dogs, approaching a dog correctly and what to do if approached by an aggressive dog. Thanks Judy for a fantastic educational experience.
On Friday 1st November, the Lorikeets and Cockatoos headed off to the Civic Theatre to watch the on stage performance of Possum Magic.
Possum Magic is the much loved picture written by Mem Fox, where Hush and Grandma Poss take a whimsical journey to cities around Australia to find the food that makes Hush visible again. The book was brought to life on stage with an original soundscape, projected animation and amazing puppetry.

Last Wednesday we had Johnno from the Monkey Baa Theatre Company. The Monkey Baa Theatre Company provides dynamic workshops empowering students to build courage through creativity while developing skills across all areas of theatremaking. Today’s workshop was based on the stage show of ‘Possum Magic’ that we will be heading to the Civic Theatre to watch in a couple of weeks. Johnno challenged the children by providing them with lots of different activities and games to enhance their understanding of being an actor and performing.
Thanks to Sharni for inviting us to Bright Smiles Dental. Sharni showed the children around the surgery and discussed the importance of dental hygiene.
Delivery Day.
Some amazing resources for the children to explore and investigate.
Wow. What an amazing experience the Cockatoos and Lorikeets got to be involved in this morning as we headed out to Hooves of Empowerment. The children enjoyed their morning tea with a little visitor, a joey kangaroo. The children also got up close and personal with the reptiles including a python, bearded dragon, shingleback lizard and a blue tongue lizard. The children were so brave as they allowed the python slither over their legs. Their was lots of excitement to meet Armani and Amara the camels. Leading the ponies around was also a special opportunity.
Thank you to Melissa and the girls for a fantastic and very memorable experience. The children and educators loved every minute of it.
