While tensile structures have ancient origins, it wasn't until the 1950s that the true potential of tensile architecture for providing expansive shade to outdoor s**ces began to flourish. One notable example from this era is the Sidney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne, designed by Barry Patten and Angel Dimitroff in 1959.
