This is the weekend of the final Wangaratta Festival of Jazz & Blues. The Cathedral has been a long term venue for the Festival, hosting both Jazz and Blues and of course the hugely popular Sunday morning Jazz Mass. This years Jazz Mass features Sedergreen, Australian Jazz Legend and Australia's Queen of Blues Kerri Simpson.

Band SPOTLIGHT: High Society Jazz Orchestra

Well known crowd-pleasers High Society Jazz Orchestras (HSJO) formed in 2007 and perform a range of music from the 1920s to 1940s with a repertoire best described as a combination of hot, sweet and novelty. The band draws on a range of highly skilled musicians from across North East Victoria and features two talented vocalists, Rob Humphrey and Linda Simpson.
Rob brings an authenticate replication of the male singers of the era with influences such as Rudy Vallee and Bing Crosby along with more contemporary crooners such as Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra. Linda is a professional singer/songwriter and musical theatre performer, who loves to sing the songs made famous by Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald & Peggy Lee.
In keeping with the ethos of the era, the band doesn’t take itself too seriously, with the prime objective of having fun doing what they love. Variety abounds in their shows, so expect a bewildering array of instruments, novelty songs, costumes, instrumental features and vocal numbers. Festival regulars for both Castlemaine and Wangaratta Festivals of Jazz, they have also played the Grampians and Wagga Jazz Festivals and Victorian Jazz Club.
They’ll be dressed to impress in glittering gowns and dapper suits, so feel free to join in the fun and show off your “Jazz Era” style - put on your gowns, polish your spats, brush off your fedoras and expect the unexpected!
