Casual Bakery Assistant (packing)
Approximately 20-30 hours, 3-4 days a week with prospect of full-time with further business growth.

This position will require evening/early morning shift work. No weekend work required.

Training provided.

We are wholesale artisan bakers who produce handmade sourdough, artisan breads and pastries. We pride ourselves on providing a flexible work environment while producing quality baked goods for quality and health conscious cafes, restaurants and produce stores in our region.

We seek a self-motivated individual, with a ‘can-do’ attitude, who loves learning and achieving. Your role in the business has potential to provide great variety from product packaging and cleaning to assisting bakers.
This position would ideally suit someone who wants work outside of traditional work hours or someone who always finds themselves awake at night with nothing to do.

A successful candidate will:
- Enjoy autonomy and be able to work unsupervised at times
- Have good attention to detail and quality
- Passion for baked products, customers and business
- Be able to follow directions
- Possess a strong work ethic demonstrated in punctuality, reliability and a ‘what’s next?’ mantra
- Show patience and willingness to continually learn and better themselves

At Salus Bakery we are a team: we learn together, fail together, work together and succeed together.

Well established in the community for almost 7 years now, we have an opening for our next talent team member who want's to be a part of a supportive team, with combined experience of 70 years of Artisan Baking.

We are wholesale artisan bakers who produce handmade sourdough, artisan breads and pastries.

We pride ourselves on providing a flexible work environment, while producing baked goods for quality and health-conscious cafes, restaurants and produce stores in our region.

The right person for the position will have alignment with our values and work culture above all else. We are a close team with specialised and tailored training provided to the right person. If you have transferable skills and are a quick learner with a passion for food and baking, this might suit you. Qualification NOT 100% essential.
The successful candidate will need to be open to multiskilling with a can-do attitude and varied responsibilities including;
- All aspects of Artisan bread production
- Traditional Butter Pastry making
- Packing of baked products
- Quality control
- Ordering and stock control
- Maintain safe operation and cleaning of equipment

Shift work is required - but no early mornings - with flexible hours possible for the right person. We operate 7 days a week, however weekend work is minimal.

Short listed candidates will be welcome to speak with and encouraged to work with, our current team to see if the Salus Bakery life and management style is suited for them, not just the other way around.

So results are in…Damien Witting came equal third - with only .1 of a point between 1st and 2nd so well done to all the young men - a terrific effort all around for the 3 days. Being tested on their theoretical knowledge, their practical skills, their communication and presentation skills along with their ability to research and present new information to a judging panel after only a matter of days - many levels of pressure from the outside world combined with the pressure they put on themselves.

Victoria - are you ready to see your baking apprentice battle it out for the LA Judge Award for Baking Apprentice of the Year?

20 year old Damien Witting from Salus Bakery in Wangaratta, Victoria is busy completing his apprenticeship while also completing his Certificate III in baking at TAFE.

After winning in his local WorldSkills Competition for Retail Bread Baking, Damien is looking to extend himself further.

"I would love to get a further understanding of the baking industry, as well as a wider understanding of the trade professions and skills that take place in order to grow my skillset. I decided to compete after competing in the state WorldSkills competition, as I really enjoyed that competition and wanted to further my skills more."

Where to start 🤔….maybe December 2019 when we ordered this baby!
After many months/years of patience, perseverance and planning we have finally been able to bring about the (almost seamless) installation of a new Salva NXDP Deck Oven thanks to a whole team of trades making themself available on the day to get it all connected with no downtime and impact to our customers. We cannot express enough our gratitude!

We want to mention and thank (for their continual work with this and many other projects); Taylor-Made Plumbing, Muraca Electrical and Kayanee Electrical. We cannot recommend them more highly for their quality work completed with integrity. We would also like to thank VanRooy Machinery for their assistance and patience and communication throughout this entire process and of course for the installation at the final stages.

Last but not least, we also want to say THANK YOU to our entire team for all their efforts in preparing for this installation which has not been a small task. They have also persisted with a glitchy oven for sometime now, but still managed to produce a top quality product.

We look forward to being able to produce an even more consistent, quality and nutritious product for our loyal customers and we will also now have the capacity to service more people in the community - so watch this space! Stay tuned for some bread pics soon too 😍

Last night we were privileged to celebrate 2 of our apprentices (Damien and Tahlia) and their recent success in the Victorian Regional World Skills competition for excellence in baking and patisserie, run by GOTAFE.

They are both winners due to entering and preparing themselves for the experience; however one of them has earned the opportunity to compete at a national level next year with the opportunity to potentially represent our country in France in 2024 - give them a ‘congratulations’ 🎊 below 👇

Our latest baking kit and zoom classes released....This coming week Tuesday 7th September, we will be doing Shortbread Cookie Baking and Decorating with a great 'hands-on' recipe for those kids who love to get their hands dirty!

Tag your friends with Kids in Wangaratta or surrounds who are needing something different to keep the kids entertained! Let us take care of the prep and the teaching (with some parental support depending on age).

We are loving all the smiling faces of the kids we are seeing on zoom each week!

If by chance we are out of lockdown- all will continue as planned except we will only run the one zoom class at 5pm (and not the 3pm one).

Back by popular demand! Something for the kids (and parents) this lockdown! Zoom Baking 2.0!

Can't do your usual after school activity? We're here to fill in the void with our Zoom 'No Bake' Baking Class!

We're stepping up from just decorating and going to make a 2 bowl-wonder that kids will love!

This Tuesday 31/8/2021 we will be putting together a Melt'n'Mix Rocky Road Slice pack with the option for you to join our family online for a kid friendly Zoom Class that will go for approximately half an hour (or of course you can do it in your own time with your little ones if you prefer)! Simply complete the attached form to order.

All ingredients required will be provided including some non-traditional ingredients like lollies to make it extra special!

Free delivery in Wangaratta. For those out of town who require delivery message us and we will see if we can get to you too, otherwise Bakery Collect will always be an option.

ATTENTION WANGARATTA AND SURROUNDS! Who has kids at home bored in lockdown looking for something different to do?

We are venturing slightly out of our comfort zone and offering a cupcake decorating kit and zoom class (for those who choose)! We hope this will bring fun, joy and afternoon tea to your home! Maybe a good bribing tool to get the kids to get their school work done too!

We will make the cupcakes and icing and deliver to you (if you live within 15minutes of Wangaratta CBD) or you can collect from the bakery if you live outside of this area or if pick-up suits you better.

Orders need to be submitted via the attached form/link by 2pm tomorrow Monday 9/8 for delivery/pick-up Tuesday 10/8. More information is in the form.

We will attempt to run 2 Zoom sessions on Tuesday, at 3pm and 5pm. We envisage they will last approximately 20-30minutes with some very brief instructions and sharing of what we are doing with our kids and would love to see what your little ones do if they are happy to share.

No actual age restriction but we imagine primary school aged kids will probably get the most enjoyment out of this - promise no judgement if you want them for yourself or to gift to others.

Take care of one another during these lockdowns - we know they aren't easy for everyone!
