HAPPINESS - DAY 12
More - we always want more, donโt we?
If something good is happening in our lives, like eating a good meal or laughing with our best friends, we want the moment to go on forever. It is the same when we are truly happy - you want to keep on being happy.
Over the last 12 days we have gone through a few areas that have a great impact on our happiness, but there are so many other steps you can take towards increased happiness.
Do what you love!
Do it often!
Think positive thoughts - think them often.
Be friendly to everyone you meet - you might be the person to make their day.
Always do your best, and remember that it is enough!

Friends and role models are important for our happiness - we are social creatures.
Also our mindset - it is better for loving a good successful life to develop so-called โgrowth mindsetโ, to believe that most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work, that the brain, along with talent, is just the starting point.
โThe power of believing that you can improve is magic, powerful and true.โ
The ultimate Icelandic ๐ฎ๐ธ motto is: PETTA REDDASTI
Meaning - It will sort itself out.

๐ Does attitude matter?
๐ Is it all in the mind?
๐ Is your happiness or your misfortune just destiny?
๐ Can we sometimes just decide to be happy?
How much can we control in our lives? It is known that if you feel you are in control of your life it gives you happiness.
So, even though you donโt ci tell all that much, just the feeling of it brings happiness .
It is crucial to learn from things that go well - not just from mistakes.

๐๏ธ Being in nature is an important part of happiness - in this way Icelanders double their happiness by venturing into the wilderness, conquering themselves and a mountain at the same time.
If you want to use this way to increase your happiness through nature, the easiest way is go for a walk in a green area. Even if it is a park in a built up city. ๐๏ธ
If this isnโt possible, close your eyes and remember time in a beautiful place youโve visited. Re-live the moments. This is sure to make you happier.

Make good relationships and meet the people that are healthy for you as often as you possibly can.

It is important for our happiness to write about things we are grateful for, as well as events and experiences in our lives.
Keeping a diary increases our self knowledge.
Write down the most beautiful day in your life or a very remarkable day.
Be as specific as you can, keep this day close to your heart.
When you read your memories a year later, you will experience the joy again โฆโฆ. And again.

Being active in your community is super important for happiness:
Can you be more active and volunteer to take part in local projects?
Can you do a good deed, or organize a gathering of some kind, in your neighborhood.

๐ When you share your wealth, whether it is material or personal, you produce the happiness hormone oxytocin. You can increase the level of this โlove hormoneโ just by being kind to others and viola - you become happier.
๐ Happiness is often found and lasts longer when we spend our money on experiences rather than physical things.

While I was in Iceland for Christmas recently I was given a book by my daughter Kalika - in Iceland ๐ฎ๐ธ on Xmas ๐ eve itโs a tradition to give books ๐ and then spend the night reading them while eating chocolate.๐ซ
What a great tradition eh?
Well I got a little book called โWhy are Icelanders so Happy?โ ๐ By Heidrun Olafsdottir & Hrefna Gudmundsdottir
Iceland ๐ฎ๐ธ are voted in the world ๐ on the Happiness scale (and #1 in the world on the Global Peace โฎ๏ธ Index) - after Norway ๐ณ๐ด & Denmark ๐ฉ๐ฐ.
The scale focuses on things like Money, Community, People, Nature, S*x, Mind and moreโฆโฆ.
There are 12 exercises in the book and I thought I would share them with you one day at a time as we embark into 2024. Itโs a fun thing to do and reflect on our wonderful happiness levels.
Day 1 exercise focuses on Gratitude / it will be coming up soon - then one exercise per day for the next 12 days.
First of all: letโs measure your happiness with this scale. What is your number?
Scientists are divided on whether it is better to score an 8 on the Happiness scale rather than a 10. Some say that saying 8 means that you take life as it comes, you are flexible and donโt have too high expectations. If you say 10, it might mean you expect too much and that can lead to disappointment.
