Freshen Up - DU
We have been working in the background with a local Gippsland Legend Design With Zach to create a fresh look to our DU brand. We are excited for the subtle update that honors our original logo design by Mark Salerno more than two decades ago.
This sample showcases some of the new shapes, colours and fonts - of course the project is the real hero.
We are working on a new website to be launched later this year to connect our brand with our wonderful clients.

Transforming a Legacy π‘
We are very lucky to work on some amazing new homes and renovation / extensions. Our clients in Berwick have commissioned DU to transform πͺ their existing Architectural home into a modern day masterpiece. πΌ
We are honoring the original design by championing its strong street presence but increasing the vertical volume, adding new materials and reintroducing a canopy for to the facade. Internally the home has a great vibe which we will continue and enhance with equally detailed interior forms and a materials pallet that will remain timeless and complimentary to its origins.
We are well into its transformation design and look forward to showing you the detailed concepts in the weeks to come.

Is looking the goods - a quick share of the look over the fence at our upcoming new home. The scale and styalised form sits beautifully in its streetscape.
Glass πͺ
One of our most favoured materials in a home or extension / renovation. Brining in natural light and ventilation to a home in our opinion is the epitome of healthy living. Well proportioned windows not just offer light but solar gain into the home taking the pressure off your heating system. Maximising ventilation also passively cools your home meaning less need for cooling. Windows have come a long way over the past two decades in Australia and with improved thermal properties have allowed us to maximise glazing without making our homes difficult to heat and cool.
A healthy home is one that has plenty of glass.

Manor
Our amazing Manor Home is taking shape. Its dominant rammed earth walls are both angular and curved making an amazing statement. The earth walls continue from out to inside and showcase the layering of the earth mass. This home is set on a 476sqm allotment and is packed with amazing features including a pool, spa, alfresco and four bedrooms.
We are so pumped to see this one come together - it is so uniqueβ£οΈ

Alternative building materials π
Our projects often feature curves, cantilevers, glass, custom shapes, angles, etc. When conceiving a new home design or extension we are always thinking about the form that we want to create along with the types of materials that we will use to achieve the outcome. We are always looking at new ways to deliver these great forms, but we also remain mindful that we do not want to use materials that maybe be fashionable whereby they may look dated in the short term.
Our freestyler project features some of the most sensational cantilevered forms. When exploring our options, we look at using concrete for the entry roof form, whilst this would have allowed for an ultra-thin profile its capabilities were limited as the spans would need to be reduced not to mention the cost and the logistics of constructing such a mass. We ended up using a lightweight frame allowing space for ductwork, insulation and services yet keeping the profile as low as possible. The cladding is a simple Alucobond in white with minimal expression on the joints to offer the same monolithic appearance that concrete would without the cost or impracticality. This entire form was constructed at ground level on site and craned into place.

Connecting π€
Our focus when designing a home or extension renovation is to ensure that the form and geometry is balanced and proportionate. In addition to this principle our homes connect the architectural form with its landscape and interior β we may use stone in a retaining wall that is used on the external fabric of the home and is used again on the interior like a fireplace or thermal mass wall.
A home designed with these principles using carefully chosen materials will look amazing for decades, should someone wish to change the materials one day the balanced form will always shine making a well-designed home stand the test of time.

Sloping land π
Sloping land can add to the cost of construction however it often creates some amazing opportunities for views, separation from your neighbours and interest in the architectural form of your home. We are mindful of the function of your home and how to best use the land and minimise any compromises.
Check out our Langly Residence, we have introduced a garage π up at the higher level to allow easy access to the kitchen and main living without compromising the views from the site. At the rear and side our living zones also connect the ground making for easy transitions between the home and the yard for kids, entertaining and visual connection.

Dropped in to see the progress on this AMAZING home on Friday.
Featuring an expansive curved rammed earth wall and highlight glazing upon arrival the home creates privacy and a remarkable acoustic experience. Approaching the home excites all of your senses, its scale, balance and respect for the site makes you feel like this is more than a building and more than a home.
Our design opens up to the rear, following the restrained curve at the front, the rear is predominantly glazed with views of the cascading landscape and waterway at the base of the site.
This home is a remarkable example of considered design, trust from our clients and great ex*****on by our chosen builder Olsson Building
As the home makes its way inside we are about to uncover the brilliance of our friend Jo Ferguson from Live.Love.Home as the interior design begins to shine!

Specialised Briefβ
Whilst most of us love open plan homes that link spaces for entertaining, we also work with people who have specialised briefs. These may include the introduction of spaces within a home that caters for people with sensory processing needs, specialised access, insomnia, working from home, you name it we love to find solutions.
In our Warragul Pool House designed in 2005 trailed a number of techniques that we have introduced into homes over the following years. Our open plan living needed hard surface flooring due to skin allergies and the vaulted form drawers in the northern light above the north deck roof form making the space a potential sound tunnel. To counteract this, we introduced an acoustic ceiling and rear wall that absorbs the sound, and the placement of soft furnishing also helps with the calming of the space. This technique is a great feature yet functional and has been introduced into other homes since.

Have you got a great block of land or home on a great block? π Our designs βοΈπ take into consideration the homes orientation, views, slope, and existing assets on site such as trees, pools, etcπ‘. If you want to maximise your property a custom designed home would be perfect for youβ£οΈ
This rural ranch example is located in wine country in Victoriaβs Yarra Valley. With picturesque views to the east and west our home takes advantage of the views without compromising the solar benefits available. Our eastern aspect offers an amphitheater style entry allowing you to take advantage of the morning sun, protection in the afternoon all centered around a mature deciduous tree. The western aspect to the rear overlooks vineyards yet is deep under cover protecting from the harsh afternoon sun. The vaulted living spaces allow for highlight windows controlling the northern light into the home throughout the day. π
