Preseason schedule for season 2024/25!

Only 9 days away until we officially kick off training for the upcoming season!
Wednesday nights at Werribee indoor sports centre and Sunday mornings* at Soldiers reserve during August and September until we officially start the season in October!

*No training Sunday September 1 due to Father’s Day.

Werribee Cricket Club it saddened to learn that Life Member Ian Hughes has passed away.

Ian is a former President of the Club and had stints as the captain of the 2’s and 3’s. Ian is also the father of past player Merv.

Our thoughts are with the Hughes family at this time.

Hall of Fame - David Norman

David is the fifth member of the Werribee Cricket Club Hall of Fame following a decorated stint which included numerous accolades.

Making his debut at Werribee in 93/94 David was awarded cap number 136. Amazingly, David won six straight Kirk Norton Medals for the Champion 1st XI Player along with 4 batting awards and 1 bowling award.

David was also a key member of the three peat Premierships in 93/94, 94/95 and 95/96.

Last year David was also acknowledged by being named in the Team of the 25 years (1997-2021) and Team of the 50 years (1971-2021), and along with Kirk are the only Players to appear in both Team of the 25 years (1971-1996 & 1997-2021).

Life Membership - Shaun Dean

Shaun made his debut in 2000/01 as a 14 year old and was awarded cap number 165. Following a stint at Premier Cricket Clubs Geelong and Footscray, Shaun returned to Werribee in 2011 where he captained the side for three seasons
and would go on to become one of the most decorated Players in the history of the Werribee Cricket Club

A two-time 1st XI Premiership Player, Shaun was also awarded the Jack Sheehan Medal for Player of the Grand Final in the victory over Ormond. In
addition Shaun has been selected 4 times into the VSDCA Team of the Year, has won 3 Kirk Norton Medals as the Champion 1st XI Player and has won the batting award a record 6 times on his way to scoring over 6000 runs.

In our final game of the season Shaun became the 7th Werribee Player to join the VSDCA 200 Club consisting of 199 Werribee 1st XI games
and 1 VSDCA Representative game.

Results from the first weekend of finals!

Unfortunately the 1st Xi run for a 5th grand final in a row came to an end on the weekend as they were beaten by a strong Spotswood outfit. Well done to Matthew Burton making 74.
Congratulations to Timmy and the boys on another fantastic season, which included 5 first eleven debuts.

The second eleven continued on with an impressive win against Melton, with Skipper Jack Waugh leading from the front with a 5-34 spell.

The third eleven are into a grand final vs Brunswick after a great win against Melton. Jacob Knight making 74 and taking 2 wickets with Nathan Havard making 50 as well.

The fourth eleven have made there fourth grand final in a row which sets up a clash against Brunswick. A special mention in this game is to Joy Patel, who made 65* at number 11, coming in with the side at 9-114, Joy and Tyler Black put on 97 for the final wicket which gave the boys a very competitive score to bowl with. Brody Black continued on his great season with a 6-49 haul.

For the third time in 5 years and fourth time in club history, we have won the club championship for season 2023/24!

It is a great achievement among the V.S.D.C.A and one the club is very proud of!

Congratulations to Chris Hennessy and the coaching staff on another fantastic season, as well as the playing group, supporters, volunteers and committee!

We look forward to another finals series where we hopefully will be celebrating some more silverware.

Young Simrth Gill making headlines!

He finished the under 16 Dowling Shield making 237 runs at 47 for Essendon Cricket Club.

Well Done to our other young stars Maahi Patel, Viraaj Aulakh, Partha Srivatsan, Kanish Gupta, Luay Miraz & Advith Godola who also played well in the Tournament!

Richmond Cricket Club took out the Dowling Shield and now several players have featured in our best players of the tournament list.
