I did notice on the Scott chair cam just now they are loading up a truck with snow to take it somewhere, my guess is to Towers or Wombats to keep them going a bit longer
Looking at the snow cams, we think we will close the shop for the season after Monday afternoon. We would like to thank all our customers for their support during this short season . If you need anything after Monday we can be reached on my mobile 0409451122 and I will be happy to reopen at a time to suit, otherwise, see you all next year around Easter. Alison and Paul.
Unfortunately today will be the last day of operations for Mt.Buller, Baw Baw, Guthega and Smiggin Holes with Hotham announcing yesterday they will close Wednesday. This on top of Selwyn closing last weekend. This is an unprecedented early closing of resorts which were looking good at the end of July. Temps started to heat up early August and then the winds picked up causing a hair dryer affect and increasing the snow melt at a rapid rate. High pressure systems have forced any potential snow bearing systems to the south of the mainland (great news for NZ snowfields).
The good news is that there is new coming tomorrow morning. Tuesday is the pick for anyone thinking of one last sickie. The winds finally ease for a short time and the sun comes out, so make the most of the fresh snow before the winds come back up Wed-Fri
Falls Creek drops price on resort entry for remainder of season Visitors to Falls Creek can now enjoy a 30% discount on resort entry permits from today until end of ski season. Resort entry permits are now $44 per day in line with reduced lift and terrain access due to recent rain and warmer temperatures. Temperatures have dropped again, and the resort saw a dus...
Hard to believe so many unlicensed drivers and unregistered cars.
The total 523 offences detected during Operation Eastern Snow in July included:
• 247 speeding offences;
• 101 heavy vehicle offences;
• 45 unregistered vehicles;
• 45 defect notices;
• 11 disqualified/suspended and unlicenced drivers;
• 8 seatbelt offences;
• 2 drug driving offences from 148 roadside drug tests;
• 2 mobile phone offences
With the operation set to continue throughout August, police are reminding motorists travelling to the snow to slow down, remain alert on unfamiliar roads and allow plenty of extra travel time, especially during busy periods, and carry snow chains.
Just looking at Snowatch for Falls Creek next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, I think a lot of skiers and snowboarders will be taking a sickie on those days, could be feeling a bit ill myself if I could get away with it
I see on the Snowatch 14 day forecast we are going to start getting some good bluebird weather days soon.
Buffalo is looking good today.
You can see why chains are required, the road to buffalo this morning.
This is going to make us very busy I think.
Watch out for the ice on the way up today
That does look pretty good, top marks to the snow making crew.
So confusing when you look at the dinner plain cams and see so many people using toboggans but I hear they are not allowed ??
Is that you skiing Wombats Peter Shannon
Good to hear, Road runner is a bit more challenging for the better skiers.
I was thinking it was time to open Drovers before the weekend, I wonder if Ruined castle is next on the list ? It will require a lot of snowmaking for ruined to open.
Great news, I like cruising down high noon when at Thredbo, a great warm up run to start the day.
Good to see they are slowly opening more lifts and skiable terrain.
In the snow-dusted resorts of Mt Hotham, Falls Creek, and Mt Buller, police patrols are consistently present to ensure the safety and wellbeing of winter sports enthusiasts out to enjoy their time. It's crucial to note, safety equipment such as snow chains is indispensable while embarking on such frosty adventures. ⛓ These devices dramatically heighten your traction, crucial during snowfalls and icy conditions. ❄❄
Always prepare and stay safe.
A couple of new snowboards have arrived.
Wombats ramble run, 2.2kms of easy terrain, the longest green run in Australia I am told.
Would be good if the skiing public had access to a cam that showed this.
We just got the last of our skis in for the season, I think we can now cater for any level of skier coming in with a suitable set to match their needs and budget.
I just noticed this on the Falls Creek website:
It's been a great week for snowfall and snowmaking! Stay tuned for updates on lifts for the weekend.
Currently fitting chains at Falls creek and Hotham if you are heading up that way.
