8.5 weeks until we tie the knot 💒 and 9 weeks until Europe ✈️ The countdown is on ⏱️
I DID IT!!! Final exam complete and I’ve officially finished 6.5 years of uni and can say I now have a Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Hons). What an experience! Started at Western Sydney University and finished at University of Newcastle. It was tough, through life’s ups and downs, juggling business and work while studying full-time and sacrificing a lot! I couldn’t have done it without 😘 Our life is just getting started ❤️ I’m so excited to put my heart and soul into my new (awesome) job, working in Paediatrics at , It’s all paid off 🙌🏼 now to relax 🧖♀️and celebrate🥂
27 weeks of clinical placement this year and all my savings $$, but I’ve finished 🥳 couldn’t have done it without the support from pushing me through to the end. 1 assignment and oral defence left 🙌🏼 I can see the light 🌈
Finished off a huge week of massage & placement with this as my view at work today 💙 Perks of living in a beautiful part of the world 🥰
What a lovely morning 🌻Walk with Jetta in the rain. Home cooked breaky with . Beautiful yoga class at my favourite and picked up a lovely homemade oil roller. Also forgot to mention it’s been 6 weeks since I’ve had a 🍷🙌🏼 . Today’s affirmations during class were “I am strong, I am calm” “that’s just pain, it’s ok it’s not an enemy” (trying to change my mindset around pain) and it felt good! Have a great day ☀️
You know you’re heading down the right path when you visit one of the residents at a supported living complex to give them their massage and they say “I’m having a lot of problems with my mobility” and your eyes light up, questions start flying “how” “describe” “when” “what’s stopping you”, and you thrive on providing some recommendations to improve their exercise tolerance, lower limb strength, sit-to-stand technique and what professions can help (I would of loved to spend the whole time doing that). Physio related questions is music to my ears. Only 4.5 months until I can legally give out advice 😆
It was a peaceful bushwalk in Swansea this morning until a Kangaroo jumped out in front of us not long after this video and I nearly had a Staffy chasing a Roo through the bush!
Some real talk, but first a funny story [but very alarming] from my first day back yesterday: A massage therapist had said that a persons low back pain was due to a neurological cause and that person should stroke the muscles of their hip with a feather to get them firing properly 🤨🤔😬🙃 wowza, that will do me 🪶
On another note I’ve set my own 90 day challenge and I’m posting it here so I’m accountable. Why? Because I’m tired of feeling great mentally and physically and then somehow ending back at square one. Real talk…2 years ago my mental health was horrid (largely due to my chronic pain with endo, at the time I had been crippled over in pain every night for 3 months straight) I took the leap and sought medical help and I’m so thankful I did as it no joke saved me! . This allowed me to be able to deal with the pain, “dull down” neurological pain, helped with anxiety (at the time I was having a panic attack over zoom meetings) and helped me bring back the connection to my frontal lobe to reduce the dreaded spiralling. There is one thing though that I’ve noticed just does not sit well with me anymore and that is drinking too much alcohol. I have very few hangovers these days but when I do, oh boy, it’s bad and all the hard work I’ve done over the 2yrs is gone in an instant. After indulging a bit too much on the long weekend I’ve decided that’s it, setting myself a challenge to see what it does for my mental and physical health.
- No alcohol
- At least 2 resistance training sessions/week
- Going for a walk somewhere new within 10min of home each week
- Finishing my book
- Cooking a new healthy recipe each week
- Riding up hills with (if I must haha)
- Have finished the research required for my final assessment
- Really making the most of my 5 week placement break, which means NOT having a ‘to-do list everyday’ and catching up with friends and family
What mini challenges can you set yourself? Let’s do this 👊🏼

Setting goals, and intentions while having fun with Jetta this morning (sound on).Can always count on a morning at the beach to motivate you💙

Don’t let anyone dull your sparkle ✨
✨I heard this in yoga this morning at and loved it. A nice reminder to self in this comparative world we live in ✨
We finished in 2hr 20min. A few wrong turns, a couple of arguments 🤪, lots of mud, scratches & some fish hook wounds. Made it to 14 checkpoints 🗺 by bike 8.5km, run 4.65km (I quickly realised I have NO trail run fitness, so it was more walking) and 1km kayak. Lots of fun down at Cams Wharf for the

✨Women✨She who returns to work or physical activity prior to the guidelines after surgery, after giving birth, after a traumatic event, while her life is still chaos, while her mind & body are still recovering, are praised. Not by you. By her ego. She says phrases like
“oh I was back at work a week later” “yeah it hurts a bit but you just push on”
“Oh my life is so chaotic” And so on…
When these words come out, the ego says “yes you are strong, this is what people base your strength on”
Trust me I’ve been there. Constantly checking in with that ego and telling it to shut up!
A week after my laparoscopy in 2015 I was back teaching Zumba with a smile on my face and a frown on my organs saying wtf are you doing sit down and rest. But that’s weak right.
WRONG. This mentality of ‘weakness’ is so toxic.
Last week I had intense pelvic pain as I completed my first massage of the day. I left the appointment parked in a nearby car park and balled my eyes out. Reluctantly cancelled the remaining massages for the rest of the day and pulled the pin on a lot of my appointments coming up. I said to Kurt “I feel weak, why won’t my body just push through it, why can’t I do it”. Hello ego!
Fast forward this week, as I stood in yoga class this morning I felt an intense feeling of STRENGTH. Different from how I felt every other time. Why today? I don’t have a jam packed day ahead (like I usually do) which means I’ve lost income, I’m planning to rest, breathe, lie down when I feel pain, eat well and slowly and look forward to being prepped for placement.
My ego is quiet and my mind & body are in equilibrium. Now that’s strength 💪🏼
I asked for one of my clients to have a physio assessment. The physio attended, the client had a significant flare up of their pain, the client asked for the physio to not return. I was interested to find out what they did so I could work out what might of caused this “bad” flare up… because I did just ask for an assessment. My client responded “I don’t know, they just did a really hard massage it was too hard”… “ok did they assess you?” “I don’t know, they didn’t say anything about an assessment”.
At this point I am just as confused as everyone else.
Now, maybe they did assess and treat what they thought was the issue, maybe the response to the treatment was expected, maybe they needed to see how they responded to the first treatment in order to confirm or refute their hypothesis, maybe…. BUT they didn’t communicate anything or if they did they didn’t check to see whether the client had an understanding. Now it’s going to be hard to rectify that.
Your therapist should:
> talk through their assessment
> check in to see how you are feeling throughout
> explain why they are doing something and
> what you might feel then and later that night, tomorrow, and the next day
> what they hope to achieve
> discuss goals, time frames & realistic expectations with you.
Trust builds rapport. Effective communication can be the fine line between a patient, client or however you refer to the person you’re treating getting better or worse.
The brain is a powerful organ and if it doesn’t BELIEVE in the process it can be very hard to achieve positive outcomes.
I hope I don’t lose sight of the importance of communication as a future physio.
Everyone should be incorporating some thoracic mobilisation/chest opening exercises into their day. I found this in for $12. I think it’s a great option for people who find the foam roller a bit too intense/ hard to coordinate. It has 3 different levels, start on the lowest and work your way up. Gradually move the board up towards your head to target different parts of the spine. A very simple way to help your stiff, sore upper back that you always feel you need to get massaged out 😉
The prettiest coastline I’ve ever seen 😍 this was the biggest “OH MY GAWWD” moment of the trip when we turned the corner and I saw this amazing slice of natural beauty. Maslin Beach📍Oh travel how I missed you!
Sometimes you have to step back in order to step forward ~ For health, happiness and career progression. As most of you know I have been dealing with chronic pelvic pain secondary to endometriosis for a number of years (too many). Two years ago I posted that 2020 would be the year I beat endo… now 2022 and I’m booking in for my second laparoscopy, trialling different meds, and working on releasing my pelvic floor. Safe to say, I haven’t beat it yet. To get on top of this I need to make some changes, and that means slowly stepping back from massage. I have 15 weeks of uni placement coming up in February so that will be a nice starter 😅
So what will I use this page for? To share all things physio related, movement, endometriosis awareness, to motivate & probably more pics of Jetta. I am very excited to become a physio at the end of the year and have become more passionate about active therapies, I can’t wait to help children & adults move, so why not start the transition now 👊🏼
Interesting research into Fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia Likely a Response to Nerve-Sensitizing Antibodies Research shows that many of the symptoms of fibromyalgia syndrome are caused by antibodies that increase the activity of pain-sensing nerves throughout the body.
1 more year 🙌🏼 I can’t wait to be an active therapist in this space ⬇️ “Physiotherapy helps people of all ages to prevent, manage and rehabilitate injury, illness or disability, and screen for a range of preventive health conditions, particularly in the ‘pain’ space,” Mr Willis said.
“The Strategy points to physical inactivity as a key determinant of developing cardiovascular disease, diabetes, breast and colon cancer, mental health conditions, experiencing falls and musculoskeletal conditions.
“Physical activity can assist in the prevention and management of these conditions, and physiotherapy plays a key role in preventing or reducing the length of hospitalization through its prescription.“
National Preventive Health Strategy 2021-2030 focuses on primary health care and physical activity With Australians living almost 11 years in poor health on average, equating to around 13 per cent of their life, the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) welcomes the National Preventive Health Strategy 2021-2030 to urgently address health inequalities, and embed ‘prevention’ in our health...
