Join me for YIN YOGA every Wednesday evening.

😊Do you need to rest to restore your energy ?

😊Do you need some time for yourself ?

😊Yin yoga is a floor based yoga practice:

Yin postures are seated, and from this position the upper body may fold forward, recline, twist or stretch laterally. Postures are targeting the lower and upper body.

Postures are held with a passive intention for a short period of time to have a holistic effect throughout the body.

The practice yin yoga draws from the eastern approach to health and wellbeing from Chinese medicine and its teachings.

These postures and the overall practice provide a safe space for investigation and exploration of the natural breath cycle and states of mind.

SO WHAT IS YIN YOGA ?

Yin Yoga is a practice which allows for a gift of having time to spend with oneself. The passive practice allows a student to integrate feelings, sensations and emotions whilst in postures, becoming more receptive.

Yin postures are mostly seated, (floor yoga practice) and from this position the upper body may fold forward, recline, twist or stretch laterally, all mostly targeting the lower body.
These postures and the overall practice provide a safe space for investigation and exploration of the natural breath cycle and states of mind.

The practice yin yoga draws from the eastern approach to health and wellbeing from Chinese medicine and its teachings. It suggests that connective tissues of the body house a liquid-rich and highly sensitive energy system, known as meridian lines.
These unseen energy pathways travel up and down the body, and form a network that interconnects and encapsulates the tissues and organs. Meridian lines are positively influenced by the way the body is treated.

When a yin yoga pose is held for a period of time the meridian lines are stimulated and chi travels to the area of the body that is under compression. Chi and blood become concentrated in the deeper yin tissues of the body, providing a natural repair response which takes place within internal organs and their organic function.

The practice of yin yoga is a unique personal practice that encourages personal transformation, relaxation and healing within the mind and body. It also allows us to take a moment out of our busy lives to understand the fullness of one’s own true potential.

Yin yoga teachers that have inspired my teachings are Sarah Powers, Sarah Owen, Bernie Clark and Jo Phee.

Class starts back on Wednesday the 10th of January.

Merry Christmas Everyone

22/12/2023

True yoga is not about the shape of your body, but the shape of your life. Yoga is not to be performed; yoga is to be lived. Yoga doesn’t care about what you have been; yoga cares about the person you are becoming. Yoga is designed for a vast and profound purpose, and for it to be truly called yoga, its essence must be embodied.”

Agni, in Ayurveda, is like the body's internal heat that drives all its transformations and metabolism. It starts by turning food into body tissues through digestion, absorption, and assimilation. This process extends to metabolism in all body tissues.

We, as warm-blooded beings, maintain our body temperature through our metabolism, which relies on this internal agni.

When agni isn't working properly, it can lead to the formation of "āma," which includes unprocessed or improperly processed food and metabolites. This āma is a major factor in metabolic diseases and other health problems. Balancing agni and restoring digestion and metabolism help clear āma and promote overall well-being.

In Ayurveda, agni dysfunction is seen as a root cause of most health issues. Restoring gut function is crucial for good health, a concept recognized in modern medicine as well. Many modern gut problems are linked to imbalances in doshas.

In the yoga practices of Sri Krishnamacharya, connecting with agni and prāṇa (life force) is vital for maintaining well-being. Proper breathing, including deep inhalation and exhalation with a focus on the abdomen, supports the central agni responsible for digestion and metabolism.

Join Rebecca Blackman yoga @ Candelo Town Hall for a well-rounded Yin Yoga sequence for the whole body, targeting particular meridians and stimulating particular organs.

The 90 min practice invites an opportunity for you to reset your nervous system, by activating the parasympathetic response, or the "rest and digest" response within our intelligent bodies.
You will be invited to practice guided active relaxation techniques, breathing methods, meditation techniques and placing the body in such a way, to have your own direct experience of the muscles softening, as well as the whole-body relaxing.

This will give you an opportunity to gain access into the deeper layers of tissues in the body that are usually protected when we engage muscles in more active activity, or times of stress.
The long holds in the floor-based yoga postures invite passive pressure/compression onto the connective tissue within the body as well as the tendons and ligaments. When particular areas of the body have been awakened and stimulated, an energetic response occurs in the tissues and joints from the increased circulation of chi, which over a period of time, or even with regular yin practice, increases flexibility, mobility and lubrication of the body.

This type of Yin yoga draws from the ancient wisdom of traditional Chinese medicine.
This tradition suggests at spring time the Yin and yang pairing of organs Liver and Gallbladder should be stimulated and nourished for efficient body cleansing, and clarity of mind.

The yin yoga practice is the one of the many health modalities that can offer you a direct experience into your health and wellbeing.
This floor-based practice is for everyone of all ages and body types.

No experience necessary. Only an open mind and an intention for maintaining your health and wellbeing.

Where: Candelo Town Hall
When: Saturday 21st October
Time: 4pm – 5.30pm
Cost: $20.00 – Payment in cash

Please bring your own Yoga mat, towel or blanket.
Bolsters will be supplied.
