Progress on "Black Bess" Bass.
Still have to complete the wiring, fit strings and do a setup and intonation. But we are getting there.

Ibanez 5 string Bass.
This arrived beaten up and dirty with many surface scratches and some reasonably deep dings in the body.
Sanded back to raw timber and a bit of careful application of steam got rid of most of the dings.
I spent some time making sure the neck was smooth and straight and then cleaned and crowned the frets.
Applied 8 coats of TruOil ensuring each coat was smooth by a light sanding with fine steel wool. Result is in the photos. Highly polished surface which should resist all but the worst treatment.
Now to clean up all the dirty hardware and begin reassembly.

New Bass build. Black Bess.
Just a final mock up to check fit of hand built inserts and finish while waiting for controls and finishing hardware to arrive.

The latest two refurbished guitars just completed. A beautiful old Blond Ibanez Artist electric which required to be kept original and with some of the patina of its age as it has great sentimental value to its owner.
And an equally well aged Coronet Strat style electric which needed a new bridge and a thorough clean up. I had to recrown and polish all the frets, adjust the truss rod, clean the potentiometers and switch, supply and fit new strings and manufacture a new k**b for the three way switch.
Both were setup and intonated after allowing strings to settle after initial tuning.

Jazz bass build from a piece of engineered composite wood. The wood is very dense so along with the Babicz bridge has great tonal qualities and sustain. AGUILAR 5J 70 pickups. Schaller machine heads.

Another build. A 5 string fretless bass in the Jazz bass style.

Telecaster style build. Solid Ash body. Babicz full contact bridge. Custom wiring. This has great tone and sustain.

Another ready for owner to pick up.
Typical Stratocaster problem with tremolo bridge becoming raised at the tail due to tremolo springs tension becoming weakened with use and time.
Retensioned springs and adjusted spring mount. Tuned and reset intonation.

The latest refurbished guitar to move through the workshop. It had been converted to a lefty some time ago and was in rough shape after being in storage for years.
I manufactured a new bone nut for conversion back to its manufactured right handed status, cleaned up all the woodwork and cleaned and serviced the tuners. New strings and here is the result.

The latest big repair job finally finished. Photos of finished bass, before repair, and during the major repairs required to the neck and fretboard.

I’m ready to take on new work as I am just finishing up the last few projects.

Most recent incoming guitars. An Ibanez which needed a truss rod tweak and it’s action lowered, tuned and intonation set.
And a Fender Squire Telecaster which needs its action lowered and set up carried out. Pots were a bit noisy so gave them and the three way switch a clean while I had it on the bench.

Recent build of a Les Paul copy for my musician daughter. Neck sourced from the US, body built and laminated here in Perth by myself and a kind friend who has access to a CNC. Lindy Fralin humbuckers, Gotoh machine heads. Waiting for a Babicz FCH Tune O Matic
Bridge and tailpiece upgrade.

A 1976 Rickenbacker 4001 Bass undergoing a major repair and refurbish.
The fretboard had come away from the neck and a previous attempt at repair by someone else had caused more damage than good. I have had to completely remove the fretboard, clean up both fretboard and neck, free up the truss rods which had been epoxied to the neck and refit the fretboard correctly.
Now to clean and check all other components and fittings.

A beautiful Spector Bass. The action was very high so after some adjustment of neck relief and bridge height and tuning and intonation set, we have a very happy customer. 😊

Another repair. The bridge piece had split and pulled away from the body. An attempt had been made to repair it before it got to me but unfortunately had done more damage than good leaving unsightly marks on the finish of the body.
I pinned and repaired the bridge piece with a quality luthiers glue, refitted it and clamped it in place for 24hours before refinishing and polishing the body.
This was a relatively cheap learners guitar so I kept the repair cost low accordingly.

This came to me as a derelict bass guitar body that had been found at a rubbish tip. I refurbished the body, painted the body top, and fitted a new neck and hardware.

A mountain dulcimer that had been unused for sometime and it’s condition had suffered. I was asked to refurbish it make new nuts and bridge supply new tuning machine heads and strings and restore it to playing condition.

A recent repair of a much loved guitar which had been knocked off its stand and the headstock sheared off. Repaired and colour matched to conceal the break.
