Make your laundry detergent and save money.

Make enough powder soap to last a year and save money.
Zote soap is safe for delicates and is said to remove stains from clothing without the use of abrasives or bleach. Zote has a nice, citrus scent, and being a softer soap, it's easier to grate.

2 bars of Zote soap (can be purchased at Paradise Store on Swan Street in Bridgetown. $5.95 for a 14oz bar).

1 box, 4 pounds of Borax detergent booster. (purchase from Carters )

1 box- 3lbs Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda (Purchase from Carters 500 grams $5.79).

4 pounds of baking soda ( AP Johns on High Street in Bridgetown. 4lb, value size $10.35

One grater (buy it from Paradise Store, on Swan Street, in Bridgetown )

Method

Grate the zote soap

Add the Zote and all the other ingredients to a large container and mix well.

Optional, you can add a powder detergent booster and a powder fabric softener. But you do not need them.

If you need something, buy two, use one, and store the other one, but do not use it. Find like-minded people in your community or close by and network with them. If you have the space for a garden, grow your own food. Remove some of the flowers you have planted there and grow vegetables, herbs, provisions, and fruit trees. Clear the grassy areas around you and plant vegetables and fruits. Or, have each person in your community grow different vegetables and fruits at the same time, then exchange what you produce with each other. Now is not the time to be selfish and greedy. Because if you are to survive what is coming, we are going to have to work together for the benefit of us all.

Make a paper copy of all your important documents. Save an extra supply of your medication. Ask your doctor for at least a month's supply in case of an emergency.

Learn to use a map and teach your kids how to use a map. Do not rely on electronic devices to assist you in an emergency. Stock up on solar-powered lamps or kerosene oil lamps if you see them at a good price. Kerosene oil is cheap right now; buy it in gallon sizes and store it in a safe place.

Do not hold on to money while refusing to buy the things you need, because the time will come when the money will be useless. Keep at least $100 at home in $5 and $10 bills, in case of an emergency.

Go to your local pharmacy and purchase iodine tablets. This is for use in case the water supply becomes contaminated. The iodine tablets will clean the water and make it useful for drinking, cooking, and so on.

Start a farmers' market in your community, where you will provide fruits, vegetables, baked goods, herbs, and other healthy food options.

Food is expensive. As a result, you need to stretch your money. Make a list before going to the supermarket and stick to it. Note that some supermarkets sell food items cheaper than others. So, shop around. For example, you can find food items cheaper at a Popular supermarket than you will find at other larger supermarkets. Stop buying meat. You can get more protein from beans. Granted, the system might have figured that out already because the price of beans is increasing as well. But, beans are still cheaper than meat.

There are creative ways in which you can incorporate beans into your meals and make your food delicious. You can use beans to make burgers, stews, and other interesting varieties of meals.

Bridgetown has some smaller stores that sell items at half the price that supermarkets charge for their food items. For example, there is a small market on the high street, next to SY Adam, inside the blue building, towards the back, where you can buy basic items for under two dollars that would cost three or four dollars in the supermarket.
