Eudaimonia Barbados Free Ethics Webinar August 16, 2022 This is the recording of the free introductory ethics webinar hosted by Eudiamonia Barbados on August 16, 2022.
Hello everyone,
Eudaimonia Barbados is pleased to announce a free ethics webinar on August 16, 2022 at 6:00 pm, being hosted by Kevin R. Layne. In this webinar we will be taking an introductory look at what is ethics and why having an ethical perspective can be beneficial for individuals, businesses, government, NGOs, professional bodies and society as a whole. These benefits can even be realised financially.
We are really excited about this venture, as we reintroduce our company and its services to the wider community. We look forward to all of you attending this webinar and to our interaction. Feel free to share this with all of your contacts. The Zoom credentials are in the poster attached.

The ethics of going back to the office (Part 2) Introduction In my first article of this two-part series (which you can access here) I explored the concerns of returning to the physical working environment from the mandated Covid-19 isolation. I discussed some of the difficulties you might encounter and how you might deal with them, starting with
The ethics of going back to the office (Part 1) Introduction The last two years have been so turbulent for the entire world that it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to state that life may never be the same again. We have been wearing masks, social distancing, and for many organizations, dealing with shutdowns and staff working from home.
Would you be interested in discussing ethical issues in Facebook Live sessions? I am looking to start Everyday Ethics Fridays, a Facebook Live session where we can get together and discuss different ethical issues. If you are interested, let me know by commenting below, and posting what types of topics you are interested in discussing. Direct party politics and slandering persons' characters need not apply. I think it can be fun and informative! I look forward to hearing from all of you!
Introductory video for my company Eudaimonia Barbados https://youtu.be/ik0NSmkFVWk
Eudaimonia Barbados Introductory Video This video is an introduction to my company Eudaimonia. It describes the company, its inspiration and what its objectives are.
INTRODUCTION
Hello, my name is Kevin Layne and it is my pleasure to introduce you to my new company called EUDAIMONIA. Now the first thing you may be wondering is this - what does Eudaimonia mean? Eudaimonia is a Greek word that has no direct English translation. It is generally translated as “Happiness”, but a better translation is “Human Flourishing”. This is the goal for my company, for all of us to experience human flourishing.
INSPIRATION
As we look around society we are faced with a conundrum. On the one hand we lament the fact that there seems to be an erosion of the ethical underpinnings of our society. There are many examples, and a cursory look at traditional or social media brings this sharply into focus. Whether it be in business, government a recognised profession or even among the general populace, there seems to be a decline in moral standards. While the majority of us lament this state of affairs, we seem to have resigned ourselves to accepting this as the “way things are”, and some have even gone so far as to embrace this harmful decay in our society as “the new normal”.
I do not believe that it needs to be this way. We ought not throw our hands in the air in despair and hopelessness. I believe we can do more, and we can do better. This is the main inspiration behind this new venture.
MISSION
The primary mission of Eudaimonia is to promote the use of ethical approaches in the business, professional and governmental spheres. There is a misconception that ethics have no place in business, governmental and professional bodies. For too long, those who patronize these entities (whether it be internal or external customers) view these organisation negatively because of the perception that they are somehow “out to get you” at any cost and that they do not care anything about you past the present transaction (whether it be financial or even the vote).
While it is true that some of these entities are profit making ventures (particularly the commercial businesses and professional bodies), this does not mean that an ethical approach will somehow restrict their ability to generate profit. I passionately believe that the opposite is true. I believe that if customers and employees perceive a business, professional body or even a government department to be ethical in its practices, it can make for a more loyal customer base or workforce.
While some may argue that they already have a loyal customer base or workforce, what they may have in reality is a “No Choice” base, whereby their customers and employees remain with them purely out of necessity, but will have only negative things to say. As one may imagine, when these negative customers and negative employers interact, it could potentially damage the reputation of the company or organisation.
METHODOLOGY
At Eudaimonia, I intend to work alongside these institutions via seminars, customized training and consultancy to help them establish and maintain ethical rules and standards. It is vital that businesses and organisations understand that ethics and critical thinking form the cornerstone upon which a sound and reliable institution is built.
In addition, I plan to volunteer, where possible, to speak to students (particularly at the secondary level) on why they should adopt an ethical approach to life. I have already started this project and the responses I received have all been positive. It was this interaction that convinced me of the need to begin a business such as Eudaimonia.
I also want to engage with you, my friends, fellow Barbadians and those beyond these shores to discuss current events and other hot button topics from an ethical and wider philosophical point of view. I plan to employ Facebook Live and other social media platforms for this purpose. For those who are interested, I will be hosting webinars via Cisco WebEx so we can have even more robust discussion.
THANK YOU!
So, thank you for you for taking the time to read this introduction to my endeavour called Eudaimonia. The tagline for this new company is “Morality Matters”, and it is my intention as I said at the beginning for all of us to experience Eudaimonia, human flourishing.
If you agree with what I have said, or you wish to explore anything further, please let me know. Please share this post and also visit our page and click the “Like” icon, so that you can be kept abreast of all things Eudaimonia. Thanks again and have a productive and ethical day.
