গাজীপুরের শ্রীপুর উপজেলার মাওনা ইউনিয়ন পরিষদের (ইউপি) চেয়ারম্যান মো. জাহাঙ্গীর আলম ওরফে খোকনকে (৫১) গ্রেপ্তার করেছে পুলিশ। এর প্রতিবাদে গতকাল বুধবার দিবাগত রাত সাড়ে ১২টার দিকে ঢাকা-ময়মনসিংহ মহাসড়কের মাওনা উড়ালসড়কের উত্তর পাশে সড়ক অবরোধ করে বিক্ষোভ করেছেন সমর্থকেরা।

স্থানীয় লোকজন জানান, চাঁদাবাজি ও অপহরণ মামলায় ইউপি চেয়ারম্যান জাহাঙ্গীর আলমকে গ্রেপ্তারের খবর ছড়িয়ে পড়লে সহস্রাধিক মানুষ প্রায় আধা কিলোমিটার এলাকাজুড়ে সড়কে অবস্থান করেন। তাঁরা গ্রেপ্তারের প্রতিবাদে মিছিল করেছেন। এ সময় লাঠিসোঁটা হাতে অবস্থান নেওয়া লোকজন সড়কের টায়ার জ্বালিয়ে যান চলাচল বন্ধ করে দেন। বিক্ষুব্ধ লোকজন রাত দুইটা পর্যন্ত সড়কে অবস্থান করে বিক্ষোভ চালিয়ে গেছেন। এতে ওই সড়কে প্রায় দেড় ঘণ্টা যান চলাচল বন্ধ ছিল।
