Assalamualikum (Peace be upon you)

We are about to enter the best decade of the year. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) guided us to seek Laylat al-Qadr, the glorified night of destiny, and its countless virtues during this extraordinary decade. The dignity of receiving the Quran on this night surpasses a thousand months. Angels descend with peace from Allah, and mercy and blessings overflow. On this night, the fate of the coming year is determined—who will live, who will die, who will be granted freedom, and who will face destruction, who will be blessed, and who will be unfortunate? Through Qiyam (night prayers) and repentance, believers can seek forgiveness for all past sins.

To attain the virtues of this night, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) would strengthen his resolve, prepare himself, wake his family, and engage in worship throughout the night. Even during the last ten days and nights, he would abandon all worldly affairs, dedicating himself to the mosque.

Let us, in this decade, engage in Itikaf, Taraweeh prayers, Tahajjud, recitation of the Quran, remembrance of Allah, charity, and sending blessings and peace upon the beloved Prophet, to earnestly seek the virtues, mercy, peace, and forgiveness of this night. Let us leave aside worldly distractions, gossip, and unnecessary activities. Let us rid ourselves of internal animosity and grudges. If we harm others, let us seek forgiveness. Let us repent to Allah for transgressions such as shirk, innovation in prayers, sins, injustices, oppression, wrongdoing, and indecency.

Especially during the odd nights of this decade, following the Sunnah, we engage in various acts throughout the night:

1. Performing prolonged prayers alongside the obligatory prayers, including prolonged bowing and prostration, if possible.
2. Engaging in Salat al-Tasbih.
3. Reciting the Quran. If possible, reciting a thousand verses, or at least a hundred. Reciting selected chapters with understanding and repeatedly reciting Surah Al-Baqarah’s last two verses and Ayat al-Kursi.
4. Engaging in prolonged remembrance, glorification, and supplication. Specifically, reciting certain phrases a hundred times each.
5. Increasing Istighfar (seeking forgiveness), especially reciting Sayyidul Istighfar a hundred times.
6. Sending blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), at least a hundred times.
7. Making supplications for oneself, family, relatives, friends, and all Muslims.

Some may not be able to stay awake all night for various reasons. Hadith describes certain deeds in which one can earn the reward of worship throughout the night:

1. Performing congregational prayers of Isha and Fajr.
2. Reciting a hundred verses of the Quran at any part of the night.
3. Acquiring religious knowledge and guiding others to the path of Allah throughout the night.
4. Engaging in Qiyam ul-Layl from beginning to end with the Imam.

Let us, therefore, rid ourselves of all sins, such as shirk, violence, slander, oppression, and indecency, and raise our hands in supplication to the exalted court of Allah. And let us recite abundantly:

“O Allah, You are forgiving and love forgiveness, so forgive me.
O Allah, grant us the honor of being among those forgiven, and bless us with the vision of Jannah through our fasting. Ameen.
