Bangladesh's First Nuclear Power Plant Nears Completion:

Bangladesh, home to over 160 million people, is on the verge of embracing nuclear power with the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant set to
launch in 2024. Located along the Padma River, 140 kilometers west of
Dhaka, it features two 1,200-megawatt units using advanced Russian VVER-1200/523 reactors. This venture results from decades of cooperation dating back to the 1960s, when Bangladesh expressed nuclear interest. A 2011 inter-governmental agreement solidified the
partnership, with Russia contributing 90 percent of funding and expertise. Construction began in November 2017, following approvals from the IAEA and BAERA, marking a major milestone in Bangladesh's nuclear energy journey

NUCLEAR FUEL CYCLE: ADVANCEMENTS IN NUCLEAR FUEL ASSEMBLY TECHNOLOGY

The journey of uranium through the nuclear fuel cycle begins with the extraction of uranium concentrate from uranium ore at uranium mills or from a slurry at in-situ leaching facilities. Subsequently, it undergoes processing in conversion and enrichment facilities, where the U-235 content is increased to a range of 3% to 5% for use in commercial nuclear reactors. Finally, it is transformed into fuel pellets and fuel rods within reactor fuel fabrication plants.
