মোগল বাদশাহ আলমগীরের নাম প্রায় সবারই জানা। বাদশাহ হয়েও তিনি অতি সাধারণভাবে জীবন কাটাতেন। তিনি যখন মৃত্যু বরণ করেন, তখন টুপি সেলাই ও কোরআনে কারিম হাতে লিখে উপার্জন করা ৮০৫ রুপি সঞ্চয় রেখে যান। তন্মধ্যে চার রুপি আট আনা ব্যয় হয় তার কাফন-দাফনে, অসিয়ত মোতাবেক অবশিষ্ট অর্থ দান করে দেওয়া হয়।
ষষ্ঠ মোগল সম্রাট আবুল মুজাফফর মুহিউদ্দিন মুহাম্মদ আওরঙ্গজেব বাহাদুর আলমগীর। বাদশাহ আলমগীর নামেই বেশি পরিচিত। তিনি কোরআনে কারিমের হাফেজ ছিলেন। একাধারে ৪৯ বছর সাম্রাজ্য পরিচালনা করেছেন। নিজ প্রয়োজনে সাম্রাজ্যের সম্পদ ব্যয় করতেন না। নিজেই নিজের খরচ বহন করতেন। বাদশাহ হয়েও তিনি শুধু জীবিকা নির্বাহের জন্য , সংসারের অতিরিক্ত খরচ বহনের জন্য নিজ হাতে কোরআনে কারিম লিখেছেন, টুপি সেলাই করতেন।
জীবদ্দশায় বাদশাহ আলমগীর কোরআনে কারিমের ১৫টি কপি নিজ হাতে লিখেছেন। বাদশাহর হাতে লিখিত কোরআনে কারিমের এই কপি ব্রিটিশদের কাছে সংরক্ষিত আছে।
