Not many know my story. I started my journey in 1996ish where I was an apprentice to a dj in a small town club/bar I was taught how to play on technic 1200s by a dj named Cliff Potts, I had been in love with djing since I heard and saw someone scratch back in the 80s that I had to learn how to dj. I meet cliff when I was 16, lol you know we all been to club when 16, so stop. 😂 anyway I wasn’t supposed to be in there but knew owners and well I got to hang in dj booth. As time rolls on I go as often as I can and I become his apprentice learning as I watched and asking questions. Also put this record away and get me this record. lol. As time went on I was able to do a few transitions on the decks and not long after few mins time here and there till my own night to rock. Couple years go by I’m playing one night and a high school buddy named Sanjaya, comes to the spot to book it for a rave. As I am playing few ppl out side dj booth of course want to request a song. Along comes the bartender threw the crowd with a milk crate slides into dj booth and says “here Papa Smurf maybe you can dj better!” Not that I was doing bad but just to break balls. So I did and turned and look back and said I can f—k you. Lo and behold everyone called me papa Smrf . Sanjaya heard this and asked me to play his party as papa Smrf.
I played a bunch of parties for the upstate scene before transitioning to more of the city parties. I played some doozies… But around 2005 I had started to slow due to settling down and marriage. Family.
Around 2016 there was divorce. I was lost so I turned back to the music quickly learning about new gear and platforms. Then around 2019 I made a comeback with posting live streams and mixes. Then well most of you were there for what came next.
Just wanted to share a lil bit of the history. Loooking forward to sharing my talents in the future with all of my past and present peeps. Thanks for reading.
