One of our most cherished and successful Kegger music alums, Jimmy Buffett, has passed away today at the age of 76 years. He will always be remembered as one of the most iconic acts of the 8 years of the Aber Day Kegger shows.

We fondly remember when Buffett was new and up and coming act who signed on to perform at the 1976 Kegger. He had just provided music for the film, "Rancho Deluxe" that really caught some of the Kegger board members attention. The fan favorite album, "White Sport Coat and a Pink Crustacean", had been released a few years before with other popular songs (Why don't we get Drunk...) and music that our committee thought would be a bulls eye for the Kegger crowd.

Buffett's easy style of singing and guitar strumming along with his varied and whimsical song writing style helped to propel him to the top of his game and created such a solid and lasting connection with his fans.

In 1977 Buffett found the Caribbean and Key West life style to his liking and started writing and recording many songs about the beach life, pirates, smugglers, favorite bars, love and lost loves. He wrote songs about the island way of life and the escapism we all craved.

He became a folk hero to so many of his Parrot Head fans including Aber Day Kegger fans who all helped make him one of the biggest stars in the music industry. No doubt it was the Margaritaville song that really helped to create an unstoppable Buffett empire. He pioneered the Margaritaville name and song into making millions of dollars through themed restaurants, retail ware, real estate sales, books and more. A true musical genius and entrepreneur.

We bid farewell to Jimmy with great fondness for all the music he shared while here on this earth. He will be missed! Our condolences to his family especially his wife, Jane Slagsvol and their children.

Now, Jimmy is on to that great final Margaritaville beach in the sky. RIP!

Cool story: A while back a friend of a friend delivered us an old relic from the 1979 ADK. A 2x8x16 ft backing board used to mount the keg taps for the beer lines. It had been attached to the coral fence to efficiently pour ice cold Rainer beer into thousands of mugs, milk jugs, buckets and ADK pitchers. Amazingly, all these years later, the board was discovered laying out in a field down stream from where the Kegger grounds use to be. Amazing it has survived all these years! If you look close you can see the 43 year old drill holes for the taps. The old pictures show the same board in use back then. Over 10,000 people served that day! All that beer must have done a good job preserving that old chunk of wood!
