My final post from two December weeks spent traversing Mexico. Came away so impressed with the hustle of the people here. Thankful so many were happy to have their picture taken. Until the next trip, ✌🏻.

A water works building adorned by Diego Rivera? You can find it in Mexico City’s Central Park

This was the museum description of this group of guitarists: Although the video presented in this installation was not made by Kjartansson, one could say that Kjartansson was made —or rather, con-ceived-because of it. The video shows a scene from the film Morosaga (Murder Story, 1977), in which a housewife has sexual fantasies about a plumber. The movie’s actors happen to be Kjartansson’s parents, and according to family mythology, the artist was conceived the night after this scene was filmed.
Following his fascination with the crossovers between biography and theater, the artist developed this performance around his own original story, devoid, however, of any biographical data. Ten musicians roam around a living room among old furniture that might as well be part of a set, and drink beer as they play guitar and sing along to the explicitly sexual dialogue between the woman and the plumber-the artist’s father and mother. The performance takes place every day the museum is open.

An ode to Luis Barragan, the Frank Lloyd Wright of Mexico. One of my favorite parts of my time in CDMX was visiting the Chapel he designed (no photos allowed) and this home — Casa Pedregal.

Was beautiful to see faith alive and well in Mexico. All the church services I witnessed were packed. Very different from the feel in Europe.

Was blessed that my trip coincided with the pilgrimage of Mexicans for the feast day of the Virgin of Guadalupe ✝️

One of the eeriest, creepiest museums I’ve ever visited. Less kitschy than I expected. Much more of a think deeply about life and death type of a museum.
