De term ‘myopietsunami’ duikt steeds vaker op in gesprekken over myopiebeheer. Experts waarschuwen voor een aanzienlijke toename van bijziendheid, wat niet alleen een probleem vormt voor de betrokkenen, maar ook voor de samenleving als geheel. Dit probleem vertaalt zich bijvoorbeeld in stijgende zorgkosten. “Elke dioptrie die we kunnen verminderen, is van groot belang,” stelt Erin Tomiyama in een recent interview. “Met slechts 1 dioptrie vermindert men het risico op toekomstige oogzorgcomplicaties.”
