Happy 52th birthday on the moon, dear little friend ❤️
On August 2, 1971, the work of art 'Fallen Astronaut' by Paul Van Hoeydonck was placed on the lunar surface by the crew of Apollo 15. It was the first and until today, 52 years later, still the only work of art on the lunar surface.
The astronauts of Apollo 15 (Dave Scott, Jim Irwin & Al Worden) paid tribute to their deceased colleagues astronauts and cosmonauts and named the statue 'Fallen Astronaut'.
For Paul Van Hoeydonck, 'the moon statue' was a symbol for humans in space, as he was and is convinced that our future lies in space. That is why he designed in 1971 an upright floating moon statue in a plexi-tube.
On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing in 2019 and the 50th anniversary of its 'moon statue', the project 'Man in Space' by Paul Van Hoeydonck was presented in Antwerp at the Botanic Sanctuary Antwerp hotel with Paul Van Hoeydonck .
'Man in Space' is an upright aluminum statue in 3 formats: real size in plexi, medium size and human size.

A matter of trust by / this small version (bronze on iron plate, 47 x 41 x 42 cm) of his big brother (aluminium, 300 x 250 x 180 cm) is now also on display at the Saint Carolus Borromeus Church.
Making off video: For the first time in over 400 years, WM Gallery by Patrick Declerck succeeded in placing the sculpture A Matter of Trust (300 x 250 x 180 cm) by Matteo Pugliese in the Saint Carolus Borromeus church in Antwerp.
The final result of this making off video is on display in the church until March 2024.
It tells the story of a sculpture that surrenders to faith, that plays the game of trust. He falls backwards, full of confidence, knowing someone will catch him.
The small version of this sculpture (47 x 41 x 42 cm) will be for sale in exclusivity at WM Gallery as from June 2023. A part of the profits go to the church.
