📿The Amsterdam Tribal Jewellery and Textiles Fair is fast approaching! 📿

I’m currently sorting through my personal collection to select the most exquisite strands and beads. Pictured here are excavated beads and amulets from Afghanistan, with a gold pendant that dates back to the Hellenistic period.

⭐️Why 1962 is a key year for Kabylia jewelry⭐️

Kabylia’s old silver, enamel, and coral necklaces are known for their bold, intricate designs, representing the deep traditions of Algeria’s Kabylia region. They are easily recognisable by the enameling in striking colors and by the use of chunky corals. These pieces were more than just pretty, they were cultural symbols.

But in 1962, when Algeria gained its independence, everything changed.

During the fight for freedom, Kabylia women donated their treasured jewellery to help rebuild their nation—an incredible act of sacrifice and pride.

As a result, after 1962, due to the lack of silver supply, the designs became lighter and simpler.
