Welcome Bibi, first time at Funny Women Brussels! 🤩
Bibi didn’t get enough attention as a child so she took to the stage and made it everyone else’s problem. As a writer, improv actres and stand-up comedian, she loves to tell stories and likes to get a little absurd with it.

MEET OUR COMEDIANS, DAY 7! 😎🤩
Helen Johnson’s first gig was the day she was born. Her mother, the late, great Dr Johnson, who was studying medicine at the time, gathered an audience of 12 medical students for this early morning performance….8:10 to be precise.
Helen said “Wah” and got a round of applause.
Sadly, no footage of this early performance exists….but if you sniff around the various boozers of Brussels you can catch Helen’s live act.
Helen is not shy about coming forward and is just as loud off stage as on. As part of her act, Helen gives tips on how to become « erotically refreshed ».
If you want to find out what that means, come along and Helen will be only too happy to oblige!

MEET THE COMEDIAN, DAY 6!
Welcome back, Chloe! 🥳
On a calm, summer morning, long after the defeat of the titans, Zeus was having a typical ambrosia brunch at a popular spot on Mount Athos. He still couldn't get this mesmerizing 'bobo fauchée' out of his head from the day before. His straight man brain eventually prevailed and soon after, transformed as a sponge with plenty of shower gel, he slipped into her tent, where she was wild camping on the peninsula across. During that first magic, bubbly shower, a very curious being was created. A creature of peculiar intellect and malleable form, trespassing binary notions of gender, culture and existence itself. Out of all her never-ending transitions, the latest one, a failed attempt to transition into a Belgian hurt particularly much Now she hopes that her new transformation journey into a comedian will be able to bring more joy into her life and the world and eventually compensate for her unavailable parents. Good luck Dr. Bourboul!

Welcome back, Poppy! 🤩
Poppy is an English art teacher who works in a pre-school. Her comedy typically is in a storytelling style with plenty of sarcasm. She talks about working with kids, having ADHD, being badly coordinated and being awkwardly British. She is super excited to perform at Funny Women and hopes you all think she is a funny woman!

Anja Sliva is a walking paradox: rational meets intuitive, extravert and introvert, artist and patron. She started her comedy journey in March 2024 and is excited to be performing with Funny Women Brussels for the first time this evening. She loves creative writing, reading and yoga and has a day job in politics to help her pursue her hobbies.

She is the kind of no nonsense comic that when she speaks, you listen! She knows what she wants and whose dryness catches you off guard at first. With its ‘did she just say that?’ Attitude. She hosts numerous comedy nights in NL. Her best friends describe her as ‘who?’

Elspeth has been doing standup for 9 years in Paris, the "city of love" and has her own one hour show "Adieu Loser Lover" (she uses Wordle for self-help advice). She's a mum and an English teacher so going on stage is the only chance she gets to be listened to and anyway, she can't afford therapy. She's a regular on the Paris scene and has also performed in Luxembourg and in the UK. She's very excited to be performing in Brussels for the first time!

Based in Frankfurt, Germany, BBC Popcorn Award Nominee Abigail Paul, a “transformative talent” who “lights up the stage” (★★★★★, Theatre Weekly), is originally from Florida, which is a subject she has enjoyed making fun of in over 20 cities worldwide, including the iconic Laugh Factory Chicago and Bonkerz Comedy Club. With excellent acting chops and a lifetime of performance experience, Abigail’s love of languages and cultures endears her to audiences of all backgrounds. Her act is a high-energy show – full of magnetism and malfunction, with a dash of diva. Her second solo show “Miss Communication” debuts at Brighton Fringe in May 2024, and will be touring Europe thereafter.

Jess Bauldry is a British comedian who ghosted a guy so badly, she ended up moving to Luxembourg. There she has learned the art of quitting work and living with the consequences of that fierce but ultimately foolish decision. Critics say: “she’s not bad” and by critics, I mean her mum.

Jess is a comedian who co-founded Festrogen in 2022 to build a more inclusive comedy scene in Luxembourg. She is part of the organisational committee behind Frilly Curtains, a women-run comedy club established in Luxembourg in 2023.

She has performed two shows at the Edinburgh Fringe and she is the founder of the Alternative Expat Guide to Luxembourg, a satirical blog and comedy show.

Mari Volar is an international comedian, MC and event producer from Estonia. Since starting out in stand up comedy in 2019, she has performed to sold out crowds at various festivals (Edinburgh Fringe 2023, Tallinn Fringe 2022 and 2023), co-founded the first women-centric comedy festival in Luxembourg (Festrogen Festival) and toured across Europe for various funny purposes.

Currently based in Cologne, she produces regular stand up shows in English with her collective Random Things Comedy as well as being a regular feature on international line-ups across mainland Europe.

Her comedic style is cheerful yet dry as she balances observational jokes against the reality of being a perpetual outsider. Mari proudly brings more feminism into her comedy and more comedy into her feminism, creating an over-the-top mix in both that simply cannot be missed. Her witty remarks and tales of immigrant living will make you love, hate and pity her in perfectly equal amounts.

In 2023 her WIP solo show "Overconfident+Under prepared" was selected for the official programme at the Women in Comedy Festival Manchester.

MEET YOUR MC for Friday Night Live Showcase on June 14th!
HELI PÄRNA is a Brussels based freelancer working on comedy, writing, workshops and project management. She has performed over 100 shows, heads the Funny Women Brussels shows and submits short stories just to keep the rejection muscle going. She has been performing theater and writing since she was a child tapping into the lineage of creative women in her family and with standup she has found the perfect combination for all of her creativity.
After almost two years of performing in different shows and cities, including Brussels, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Geneva and Tallinn, where she premiered her first one woman stand up show, The Adventures of the White Unicorn, during Tallinn Fringe Festival, she is now preparing for her first time at the Edinburgh Fringe. She is the showrunner of Funny Women Brussels and organizes comedy writing work-shops as well as stand up events for employers who want to make their employees laugh (in a good way).
Off stage, Heli is usually reading, watching anything by Mike Flanagan and traveling.
