“Design is an integral part of our daily lives. In this museum, there is no ‘starification’ of the object, but rather exhibitions and archives that promote the history of design and a cultural history of the objects that surround us. » - Arnaud Bozzini, Director of

The Design Museum Brussels has just launched a digital version of the Plastic Design Collection, the cornerstone of this institution which humbly declares that plastic is fantastic for understanding where we are at, whatever our generation. The proof lies in one of the institution’s current temporary exhibitions, where Art Nouveau resonates with plastic design.

DESTROYERS/BUILDERS , Antwerp & Brussels BE

Discover the work of Destroyers/Builders, founded by Linde Freya Tangelder. Inspired by architectural shapes, the furniture pieces are inspired by architectural elements, materials or building techniques and highlight the field between industry and human, through diverse materials. The contrast in materials, the touchability, and the human traces that are still visible in the object, explain the method of Destroyers/Builders.

Destroyers/Builders takes on projects that range from commissions to self-initiated projects, and extends across the realms of both architectural furniture and interior projects.

Discover « A Comparative Dialogue Act » , a project by the Luxembourgish artist .cc and the multidisciplinary Brussels based design collective .xyz has been conceived as an infrastructure for the transmission of sound – a shared production space challenging the entrenched notion of individual artistic authorship.

Throughout the duration of the 2024 .art.biennale, the pavilion is hosting four guest artists who will produce and present new sound performances, thereby expanding the definition of a collective artwork. In this context, the notion of openness is not bound to the absence of limits, but rather to the appropriation of ‘the other’ and its contribution to open-ended scenarios.

Sound and space are tuned: the spatial elements – floor and walls – are turned into sound devices, progressively shaping an immersive experience. Technology is used to develop this localized experiment through which artists and audience consider the conditions under which knowledge is transmitted and shared. The pavilion is at once the space where the soundscape is produced, and where it is played – the studio and the stage – in a gesture of radical transparency.

On view until November 24 at the Venice Biennale.

LABEL IN THE PICTURE -

Alinea Design Objects is internationally known for high end furniture and design objects, typified by distilled and strong shapes with a highly aesthetic look and feel. Timeless furniture and objects, with an implicit invitation to be used creatively, are the main characteristics. Designed with passion, made with skill.

The work of Leo Aerts, the designer behind the label, is characterized by a timelessly pure design and aesthetic compositions that transcend the functional. The many international awards prove that his work is appreciated. Long before sustainability, cradle to cradle, recycling and the circular economy were involved, all these aspects were already integrated into his design philosophy and designs.

Discover , High-tech woven flooring for commercial use.
100% recyclable. Designed & manufactured in Belgium.

The brand originates from a family of innovators. In 1991, in a small Belgian atelier, Katia Dewitte designed her first high-quality custom-made rug for the local market. The name of the brand was Limited Edition, as she wanted to emphasize the exclusive character of her creations.

Shortly after, Katia was joined in business by her brother and husband. By 2000, they were able to expand the business, purchase their first industrial weaving looms, and establish a holding company: Le Tissage.

The business kept growing, and finally, in 2005, 2TEC2 was founded as an interior brand. The company went all-in on high-end woven flooring, and thanks to its innovation and high-quality standards, it became the flourishing company it is today. Over the course of three decades, the small family business has grown into a global supplier of luxury woven flooring and other applications.

Serax , the Belgian design brand, released a collaboration with Italian luxury brand Marni

The collection is made of 120-piece porcelain tableware set, which celebrates the Italian fashion house’s artistic vision. Marni’s Creative Director Francesco Risso designed the flower motif, which was inspired by nature. Decals are used to apply the pattern to the fine bone china, after which it is glazed, to make it more wear resistant. The slightly asymmetrical shapes of the plates, bowls, cups, saucers, and tea pots serve to accentuate the hand-finished porcelain’s quality.

Beyond the Mirror - THIBEAU SCARCECIAUX at .paris

From 27 March to 13 July, Sinople is unveiling ‘Beyond the mirror’, a synthesis of his work developed since the beginning of his collaboration with the gallery.

Somewhere between an artistic installation and a domestic space, the exhibition can be experienced as an existential maze, a dominium in which the object is master and mirror of the boundaries between ourselves, others and the world. A world that the artist reinvents with his favourite materials: glass and light.

Through his work, Thibeau Scarcériaux creates a functional and sculptural ecosystem that plays with our senses, our bearings and our subconscious. His productions, which are all utilitarian, initially provoke a disconcerting questioning of their own materiality, construction and use, before finally focusing attention on our own condition.

COSE Collection of for

The word the English describe as ‘stuff’, the Italian’s refer to so much more nicely as ‘Cose’. All sorts of different things. That’s precisely what designer Bertrand Joly wanted to achieve with his collection: a variety of accessories that can be used in many different ways. While the first impression of Cose may be that of bathroom accessories, the bowls, jars and soap dispenser can also be perfectly translated into other rooms and functions.

“I see Cose just as well in the kitchen, where the jars can be used for the aperitif, or as storage containers. The soap dispenser is also of added value in the kitchen. What makes Cose a collection is that it is not limited to the bathroom at all,” explains Lejoly.

What’s more, the craftsmanship involved in the manufacture of these porcelain objects ensures that Cose does not look too sterile. The tiny imperfections make each object unique. The matt shades in off-white and coal-black also emphasise the mood, while the inside has been glazed to ensure ease of use.

BEAM LAMP
Designed by for

The beam of light of this standing lamp traces a path through the air from the ground upwards, leaving behind an glow materialized by the base. The stainless steel, reflecting like a mirror, becomes elusive in itself, just like the light it carries. Due to its form, the lamp is strongly connected to the ground. In this way, the light gives the impression that it emerges from the earth, not from the sky as one would expect.

The atypical form of the base distances the object from all archetypical shapes referring to a standing lamp, resulting in a SCULPTURE rather
than a lamp. The foot of the base again refers to the other meaning of the word beam and is referring to the silhouette of a metal beam.

Buzzi Space, Antwerp BE

Since 2007, BuzziSpace’s main driving force has been to produce effective and high-quality acoustic solutions, lighting, and furniture for the ever-changing workspace that are both functional and inspiring.

Buzzi Nest & Pod are alternatives to expensive infrastructure and erase disruptive noise from any workplace. The compact acoustic privacy Booth for 1 offers a private space to work and take calls, while BuzziNest Pod allows up to 4 people to hold face-to-face meetings & collaborations in any open space without disturbing others or being disturbed.

BuzziPlanter is the fusion of a planter and an acoustic element. The upholstered colorful pot, made from high-density foam, has the acoustic superpower to absorb excessive noise in open spaces, creating healthier environments for people to thrive.

Contrary to traditional seating elements, BuzziCee features a symmetrical curved shape that allows colleagues to hold informal meetings or to sit together apart.
