VUBMUN’s 2023-2024 team just finished an exciting weekend at the Vereniging voor de Verenigde Naties Model United Nations (VVNMUN) conference. We are fired up and ready for LIMUN!

It is an excellent opportunity to improve your English, public speaking skills, and meet people from around the world. Hello everyone! We are delighted to present this year’s new board and to share with you some important upcoming dates.

Sam is a management student here at the VUB during the week and a student Cabin Crew Manager at Tui Fly Belgium during the weekends. Sam is a passionate VUBMUM member, having last year participated in VUBMUN and winning the prize for best delegate at both VVNMUN and LIMUN.
Galen is an alumni of the VUB. He is from Anchorage, Alaska and has lived in Brussels for three years now. Galen is a committed VUBMUN member, having been involved with VUMBUN for 2 years, where he has participated in LIMUN 2022 and 2023, and the 2022 VVNMUN.
Daniele is a journalism student at the VUB. He is from Sardinia, the most beautiful island of the Mediterranean. He has been an enthusiastic member of VUBMUN for over a year and looks forward to taking on his new role as a board member where he will assist delegates in preparing for the conferences.

We will be opening applications Tuesday, October 3rd in the evening and will be due Friday, October 13th at midnight.

Keep an eye our for our booth at the student kickoff this Thursday, where we look forward to answering your questions and sharing our VUBMUN experience.

The VUBMUN team had the pleasure to participate in the 17th Edition of VVN - Inter University Model United Nations. Over the course of three days, delegates debated on the topic of “The War in Ukraine, is a viable diplomatic road towards a non-military solution possible?” This pressing current topic challenged our delegates and pushed them to uncover innovative ideas to understand this burning issue as well as made them aware of the realities within the Security Council. Special shout out to our delegation of Brazil ._singh and .ionut for achieving the Diplomacy Award for the VUBMUN Team. We would also like to specially thank Filip Lismont for his valuable insights and time in preparing and supporting the delegates before and after the conference. We look forward to what the next semester will bring, until then Happy Holidays!

We are delighted to share that VUBMUN held a mock training weekend in Kortrijk this weekend and our team had a fantastic experience. In this first experience, our delegates had the opportunity to test the waters and practice their speeching, negotiating and policy writing skills under the topic of the Nuclear Disarmament of the Democratic People’s Republic of North Korea set in a Futurisitic Security Council. Kudos to all our delegates each of whom came back with polished MUN skill sets! We also want to thank the VUBMUN alumni who came and shared their experience with our delegates!

Introducing the VUBMUN Board of the year 2022-23!

Fatimzahra Belaidi Zine (22) - A highly motivated, daring, and passionate initiative taker. Currently a second-year student of Business Engineering. In university, she has taken on different roles. From representing the Belgian alliance in EUTOPIA, to co-organizing a Youth Conference with a Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, to being on the Board of the student council and even worked together with professors, (vice-)rectors on projects which improved the university's image on the international academic scheme.

Benedikt Hötzel (23) – Born and raised in Bavaria is a third year student in Business Economics. Growing up close to the Alps and spending his childhood on glaciers, lakes and forests he developed a deep interest in nature. Wanting to complement his Economic degree with a Journalism degree in his masters. He is ultimately aspiring to settle down in Switzerland working in the area of economic journalism. Benedikt has several interests and hobbies, to name a few different ones, skiing, tennis, chess, fishing, rowing, while being with friends.

Fatima Yaqoob (23) - Born in Pakistan, having lived in four different cities namely Hong Kong, Islamabad, Paris and now Brussels, Fatima is currently in her last year of Political Science. Studying at the British School of Paris, she undertook a short internship at UNESCO which exposed her to the world of diplomacy and since then, exploring the many facets of multiculturalism has become embedded in her. Outside of university, she has been developing her zest for film acting through studying the Meisner and Eric Morris techniques of film acting in balancing short courses in Paris with her studies.

Since its founding in 2002 VUBMUN has sought to challenge tomorrow’s leaders to expand their global awareness, discover new experiences, become masters in the art of diplomacy and have the time of their lives! Through embracing the spirit of the United Nations we seek to inspire the global citizen in each of our delegates; that they may act as ambassadors of the interconnected world we live in.

MUN:
Model United Nations or MUN is a simulational activity in which students become delegates in various United Nations committees, effectively taking on the role of the UN delegates of an assigned country, or in some cases political figures and organisations (such as the IMF). The goal of these committees is to write and eventually pass a resolution with concrete policy proposals, essentially UN legislation.
