'The Ballasted Orchestra' - March 10th, 1997

The unstoppable marching of time has slowly guided us towards the 25th anniversary of this thing, originally released on March 10th, 1997.

'The Ballasted Orchestra' was essentially self-confidence masking dread at the bottom. I have always felt quite incredulous looking back in reverence, but there was only stubborn stupidness to this era of SOTL & it's something I have completely forgotten about.

During the recording in 1996, I was living a meager existence.
My 4 track recorder was probably the only article of value that I never hawked for money. Everything was captured on those little archaic devices, and most of the time it was Brian & myself playing guitar together in the same room of that dilapidated shotgun shack (the house literally ended up breaking in half, and now only a vacant lot exists on the corner of 12th & Comal in East Austin, Texas).

So if you are needing to relax this evening, I would encourage you to put on side 4 of the vinyl, or the last 18 minutes digitally, as I suppose to my tired ears it has aged quite well... and in hindsight, I feel is the strongest part of the recording.
