Storage is one of the most important aspects in preserving our music. Alejandro, our jobstudent, has taken the major task upon themselves to repack our collection in acid-free material. This will help us to protect the paper and prolong its durability.

Tim Duerinck studied instrument making at the Ghent Conservatory. For his master's thesis, he made a cello out of polystyrene foam. For his PhD, he built stringed instruments out of composite materials (flax, carbon and fibreglass).
Thanks for this great addition to our library!
Found in a violin score and marked "Anna Gevaert", probably the teacher standing to the left. Always fantastic to find these little surprises in the Muziekbibliotheek! If you know where this photo was taken or any other information, please contact us!
Some before and after shots of the recent move of Muziekarchief to the Muziekbibliotheek. We look forward to welcoming visitors to listen to LPs and CDs later this year!
While selecting documents to digitalize from the archives of the Ghent Conservatory we found this. Victor Horta aged 12!
Another very nice article about the new addition to the Muziekbibliotheek!
We are very happy and excited to be welcoming the Muziekarchief to the Muziekbibliotheek!
While visiting our special exhibition around the lion in music on Sunday you can also visit our year-long exhibition about opera in Ghent. In addition to manuscripts, photographs, and scores from the 19th century until today you can see some of the fantastic costumes made by Walter Van Beirendonck for Philip Glass's opera Akhnaten.
A nice article about our one day exhibition this Sunday.
This year's Erfgoeddag focuses on animals. Of course we couldn't miss the chance to display our Vlaamse Topstuk "De Vlaamsche Leeuw" by Karel Miry. You can see it on display this Sunday (23 April) from 10:00 to 17:00 in the Muziekbibliotheek Gent along with other works featuring lions.
Last week we had the great pleasure to interview Jacqueline Van Quaille, graduate of the Ghent Conservatory (class of 1958), about her time as a student and international career as an opera singer. Many thanks to Geert Dhondt for conducting the interview and the team from the media cell of HOGENT. The interview will be part of the Muziebibliotheek’s exhibit about opera in Gent opening in January.
A great day discussing 19th century music and sources as well as historical recordings with experts and students in the Muziekbibliotheek.
Throughout the month of September the festival 123 Piano will take place in the city of Ghent. Seven pianos are placed in public areas for free concerts and for anyone who wants to play a tune. If you have the urge to tickle the ivories but are a bit timid stop by the Muziekbibliotheek, pick out a score and try out our silent acoustic piano.

In september ste...
