We are so proud to announce that we, together with the entire team, have been selected as the preferred bidder in the competition of the Jan Van Eyckschool in Gent!
Five secondary schools from SKOG (Scholengroep van het Katholiek Onderwijs) will merge into the Jan Van Eyckschool.
The project consists of a combination of existing and new buildings and is located on the current EANDIS site, in the northern part of the city of Ghent.

Vorige vrijdag overleed onze collega en vriendin Annelies Timmerman in de armen van haar geliefden.
We nemen afscheid in ‘haar‘ Paterskerk in Sint-Niklaas.
Ze was meer dan 10 jaar een collega die we heel hard zullen missen.

Last Wednesday, the ceremony of the inauguration of Stéphane Beel as an honorary member of L’Académie d’Architecture took place in Paris.

L’Académie d’Architecture:

« “L’architecture est devenue ma vie”. C’est ainsi que Stéphane Beel a introduit sa conférence d’installation comme membre d’honneur de l’Academie d’architecture (ce soir 26 juin). Stéphane Beel a créé son agence à Gand au début des années 1980 et consacré sa vie à imaginer et construire des bâtiments publics et privés comme le nouveau hall d’accueil de la Maison Rubens (Rubenshuis) à Anvers, le musée Roger Raveel à Machelen-aan-de-Leie, l’agrandissement et la rénovation du Centraal Museum Utrecht, aux Pays-Bas, le tribunal de Gand, l’extension du centre culturel De Singel à Anvers, le musée M de Louvain, ainsi que des centres de santé mentale, de nombreuses écoles et des logements.
S’il commence toujours ses projets par le dessin (à la main) suivi d’un exercice de questionnements et de doutes, il les élabore par la raison en laissant la place à l’intuition.
Comme il conçoit l’architecture comme un repère culturel et social dans un monde en mutation, il privilégie sa durabilité par l’innovation et le respect de la tradition. Une architecture qui améliore la qualité de vie de ceux et celles qui y vivent ou qui la côtoient.
Une architecture tout à la fois exigeante et généreuse. Résultat d’une passion partagée entre l’architecte et le maître d’ouvrage. »

The construction of CURAM at Campus Heilig Hart in Ieper (BE) has officially started!
A psychiatric care institution consisting of a closed ward (HIC - High Intensive Care) and an open ward for addiction treatment.

In the coming months, Borgerwijk in Sint-Katelijne-Waver will take further shape. The Seminary Building will be renovated and preserved, the rear building will be replaced, and two new buildings will be added.

The chapel, front building, and central connecting building will be repurposed for community-supportive functions such as a daycare center, a secondary school, shops, and offices. The central access to the site will be restored and will serve as the main entrance to the Seminary Building. The new buildings will house multi-family residences with a total of approximately 230 apartments. Over the years, the original seminary garden had already been transformed into a public park, which will also be addressed and upgraded in the current project.

New Innovation Campus as extension of STO headquarters in Stühlingen-Weizen (DE). Competition design in 2023.

The expansion of the Sto campus is the largest single-phase transformation in the company's history. It requires enormous attention and caution to and with the existing and historical context. Incorporating the new innovation centre into a full-fledged and integrated campus for Sto is a delicate exercise that can revitalise the company's image...
First and foremost, the river symbolises the duality of constancy and change. Always the same and yet always different, the river symbolises constancy in the midst of transformation.

In relation to each other and on their own, the four new buildings are like stones in the river, at the bottom of an alluvial plain. They follow 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳: it is as expandable and orderly as Wilford's grid, but in radically different ways.

The construction of the renovation of the corridors and foyers in deSingel in Antwerp has started!
This assignment consists of three main parts. Firstly, the corridors need to be addressed. Additionally, the Blue and Red foyers, which are connected to the corridors, will be renovated, as well as the Artists' Foyer. Lastly, as an optional component, the renovation of Block C, beneath the cloakroom, is included.

BEEL Architecten transformeert historische stadhuis Ronse Het Gentse BEEL Architecten heeft samen met aannemer Furnibo de Design & Build-wedstrijd gewonnen voor het nieuwe administratief centrum van de stad Ronse.

BEEL ARCHITECTEN is happy to announce it has won the design&built competition for the new administrative centre (NAC) in Ronse, together with Furnibo as contractor.

The historic city hall located in the central square of Ronse will be renovated in a sustainable way.
The new building confidently positions itself next to the old town hall, adopting its heights and rhythms, creating a strong overall composition. The spacious and covered entrance welcomes the residents and showcases the civic functions to the city. The reception desk, waiting area, and counters provide a view to the new inner garden. Through a spacious and light-filled atrium to the offices and the cafeteria on the first floor, the public and the administration are connected. The assembly chamber on the top floor offers a beautiful view to the central square of Ronse. It reminds its users of serving the well-being of the residents of Ronse.
Social and technical sustainability are key. The NAC is set to become nearly energy-neutral and will not rely on fossil fuels. The inner area will be extensively de-paved and greened to create a climate-resilient city garden.
The new administrative center promises to be an added value for both residents and employees.

The model of KANAAL, created and used for the exhibition ‘Composite Presence’ for La Biennale di Venezia in 2021, is now on display in the winter garden of our office!

Loodswezen: NOORDERVLIETEN in Antwerp - competition design in 2016.
Area development, renovation and reconversion of a protected monument to youth hotel, a new tower with hotel and sports facilities with public functions.

The historical layering and archaeological subsoil at the Loodswezen site are so important to the history of Antwerp that they form the basis of the design.
The lines of the former Kaaien and the historical vliets associated with the city's growth are used to give the archaeological site a face. The large open plain, the void is defined by historical fields with a strong individuality. They act as connecting elements between the Schelde and the adjacent city. In the places where the former vliets were located, the lines of sight to the Schelde are preserved.
A sequence of zones representing the former mainland is created.

A new building emerges from the Schelde front. It makes an inviting gesture towards the Linkeroever; it wants to enter into a dialogue and connect. The building reinforces the weakened position of the Pilotage building created by the surrounding buildings so that the site becomes readable again from a sufficient distance.
The building is not pretentious and does not want to claim all the attention, but positions itself sufficiently to be image-defining. It takes over the role of the former Pilot Building. It is a navigator, indicating a place and setting a course. Both for its immediate surroundings and on a larger scale, a radius connecting the different parts of the city.

Last Friday was the official opening of the new central headquarters of Politie Antwerpen.

The new hypermodern building houses office, sports, intervention and security services, including a shooting range, detainee area, interrogation rooms, and law enforcement spaces (virtual reality room, telecommand room) and is the final piece of the POST X site along the Antwerp Ring Road.

By the end of October, 2200 people will be working in the master building.

The final phase of the development of the De Nieuwe Dokken in Gent has begun. Two weeks ago, they started demolishing the warehouses.
At the southern border of the 'Zuidveld', the Tournesol will rise; an elegant residential tower with 61 housing units.

Last Thursday we went to to see the performance ‘BLAUBART - BEIM ANHÖREN EINER TONBANDAUFNAHME VON BÉLA BARTÓKS OPER "HERZOG BLAUBARTS BURG"’ by Tanztheater Wuppertal / Pina Bausch. A masterpiece that premiered in 1977 and hasn’t been performed since 1994.
The performance took place in the Rode zaal, which has been renovated by us over the la years. BEEL has a long history of renovations and additions at De Singel.
