Looking for the heart of Saturday night? Gregor Samsa remains open until late, serving drinks to warm you from the inside out.

The programme of live events at Gregor Samsa this December includes 15 concerts from folk singer-songwriters to free improvisation and dark glam rock to punk. We hope to welcome you to one or more of them. There are also two playreadings, Pygmalion this Sunday, and Seamus Heaney's The Burial at Thebes, a version of Sophocles' Antigone on 21/12.

Printed copies of the full programme will soon be available to pick up at Gregor Samsa and other live music venues, bookshops and cafés around Ghent.

Indie Folk duo Imaginary Sister are in the Antwerp final of Sound Track at Trix on 9/12. I'm delighted that they will join us in Ghent for a live set next Thursday 30/11.

There’s a change of plan for tonight’s concert.

Peter Puype has caught the flu and is unable to perform. Instead, Peter Jacquemyn will play with the brilliant trumpeter Bart Maris. I wish Peter P a quick recovery and hope to welcome him to Gregor Samsa soon. In the meantime, a huge thanks to Peter J and Bart Maris for the last-minute musical dialogue. If jazz is an attitude and a way of making music, more than a style, then you’ll hear it tonight.

Playreading is back at Gregor Samsa this evening! Join us at 20:00 for a reading of Edward Albee’s masterpiece, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

Everyone who wants to read a part will have the opportunity to do so. Those who prefer to listen with a glass of wine are also very welcome. 🍷

Free entrance. If you would like to take home of copy of the playscript, these can be purchased after the reading. Gregor Samsa has an archive of more than 300 playscripts, from Greek tragedy to contemporary drama. All of these are for sale.

If there’s a play you would like to hear read aloud in an informal group, feel free to suggest it - together we’ll make the words come to life! 🎭

Gregor Samsa is delighted to partner with oneMusic Orchestra to bring internationally celebrated classical musicians to an intimate setting that really brings performers and listeners close together.

In the first in a series of chamber concerts we welcome the Shishkov-Hadjiev duo - a collaboration between the imaginative Belarusian violinist Artiom Shishkov and the innovative Bulgarian cellist Stefan Hadjiev. They will perform some of the most demanding works for cello-violin duo by Maurice Ravel, Bohuslav Martinů and Zoltán Kodály. This promises to be an unforgettable evening.

This excellent book by Gail Holst is for sale at the bookshop. A good introduction to rebetika, with chapters on the history of the music, biographies of the musicians, some photos, explanations of the musical structure and some lyrics and translations. 📖
