Wist je dat je op het Veerleplein kan zien als er een baby wordt geboren in een van de ziekenhuizen in Gent? Een paar jaar geleden kocht het stadsbestuur van Gent het kunstwerk 'Ai Nati Oggi' (wat 'Aan wie vandaag geboren is' betekent) van de kunstenaar Alberto Garutti. Het kunstwerk is geïntegreerd in de lantaarns van het Veerleplein. Elke keer als er een kindje wordt geboren in een ziekenhuis in Gent, knippert de verlichting langzaam. Op een grote steen op het plein wordt uitgelegd dat het knipperen geen storing is, maar een aankondiging van babynieuws.

Het breistertje – hipster in brons
Breien is terug hip. Voor sommigen lijkt het zelfs deel uit te maken van een way of life. Net daar draait het beeld om dat je kan spotten op de hoek van het Zilverhof en de Pluimstraat. Een venster ingenomen door een beeldhouwwerk. Een bronzen beeld van een breistertje omringd door een Romeinse zuil, een conservenbloek en een wiel. Het breien is het alledaagse leven. De voorwerpen staan voor dode beschavingen. Boven haar hoofd staat de tralies voor het innerlijke leven van de mens.

One from the old box: the Bisdomkaai
The Bisdomkaai was created at the end of the 19th century by ubanization works in the area of the Reep. During the works, the Lower Scheldt was flooded between Brabantdam and Geeraard de Duivelsteen and quay walls were added from Bisdomplein to the mouth of the Leie. This created the Bisdimkaai. In 1960, this historic border river was overwhelmed to make way for parking. We see the result in pictures.
