Over the past decade, our founder, Rob, has been through a lot.
But throughout all of those setbacks, all the “no’s”, he kept believing, fighting and investing. “If no one will join me, I’ll do it myself. if they sabotage me, I’ll find a way. If it seems impossible, I’ll make it possible as much as I can” is basically his adagio.
So, after all the achievements throughout those years of hardship, the one he is particularily proud of is this one: Big Daddy’s Falernum.
What started out as a joke, grew into an experiment and was turned into a brand, with a perfected zero waste production process and distribution network.
The world’s first (and only) premium Falernum, created by a Belgian (the same guy who created the first commercial Belgian Falernum), turns the general consensus of what falernum is completely upside down.
Big Daddy’s Falernum can be used not only as a flavouring agent, or to add texture, but more importantly as a base spirit, served in highballs, Tiki (off course), straight up and in Hot drinks. You really should try Our Big Daddy’s Hot Toddy, especially when feeling sick or on cold days.
Therefore, we share the recipe with you.
Hold on to your socks muppets, because it is so damn easy:
50ml Big Daddy’s Falernum
50ml tapwater (!)
Heat it up (don’t boil)
Squeeze in a lemon wedge
Garnish (if so desired) with a slice of pineapple, cinnamon stick, orange slice, whatever…
That’s right folks. It’s that easy. And we guarantee, no other brand of falernum is as versatile as ours is. We know. We tried all of them.

A little personal note here, just to wish you all the best from everyone here at Koks& Tales for the holidays.
Wether you believe or not, wether it be Jesus, Mohammed, Buddha or the Spaghetti monster, we hope you all will have a comfortable and safe transition into the new year.
It's been a rough and tight year over here, but we survived once again and head into a new one, looking forward to all the exciting things awaiting us.
Grateful for the chance to actually have the luxury to look forward to new chances, when so many have none right now.
Remember how lucky we all are despite bad days and sh*tty situations, and keep insisting on ending hostilities and inequality everywhere, so all of mankind may know a full belly, peaceful nights sleep and a roof over their heads.
The bar is open tonight as usual. We're closed on Tuesday, 26th. Back on call on our regular hours as of Wednesday 27th.

Dearly beloved,
I can not believe it has been 10 years.
On september 1st, 2013 I hosted the very first Koks&Tales. Back then it was in open air with three dodgy barstools, a second hand bookshelf that I used as a bar, a lamp and a transistor radio.
I had no choice, since I was a former homeless person with no money, no faith from the community (for some reason not everyone likes it when you’re good, have morals and standards and you know it), no help from banks or anything. I quickly realized there were no opportunities, besides the ones you create by yourself in such cases.
How far we have come since those days. From occasional themed events in interesting locations to pop-up in co-working space Zelfies to my current spot: it’s been one hell of a ride.
“It won’t last”. “You won’t make it”. “Talented, but nothing more”. “Total nutjob” (that last one is true, I’ll admit). So much unjust blame, prejudice, gossip and lies have been spread about me in former and recent times, it almost felt often as if people absolutely wanted to see me fail. Some do, of that there is enough proof. Sorry to let those of you down, but hey, up yours.
A lot has changed. With ups and downs this place became a stronghold, a brandname in it’s own right. We’ve seen guests come and go, for some it wasn’t their cup of tea, for most thankfully, it was and still is.
I look back at what I’ve achieved with a lot of gratitude towards certain people that kept believing in me: , , , , , our partners, my crew, my family (we’ve been through a lot of ordeals, but always found each other and keep fighting for one another) and of course, you; our esteemed guests and patrons. Thank you for everything.
Time to let the next generation take over and continue the work I began. Together we will keep up our high standards. That will never change. And this way, you can be certain the bar will keep on going.
I want to welcome as many of you as we can this Friday, september 1st to reminisce, celebrate and just have a bloody good drink.

This is Jake, our head bartender. Fresh of the boat from Brisbane, Australia, he got married to a local girl and therefore understands what it means to be shackled. Jake has had extensive experience in bars in Australia and
was able to adapt very quick to our way of working and our menu. A solid rock upon which the bar now stands, he brings in an extra touch of exotica in to this place.

Before Koks&Tales moved to the city centre of Hasselt, it was a pop-up cocktail bar at the most surprising locations. From skybars to musea, from fashion shows to speakeasy bars: wherever you would find us, a full house and fun were guaranteed!
Because of the overwhelming enthusiasm with which our presence was received, we decided to open a permanent cocktail bar in a pleasant neighbourhood with lots of nice bars and shops where we welcome cocktail lovers in a cosy 30’s style atmosphere. You can visit us Tuesday through Saturday to taste one of our cocktails. Besides the delicious own creations of Head Bartender/Barowner Rob Biesmans, we also offer classic cocktails and variations on classic cocktails, beer and soda on our menu. For those who like champagne, we serve only the best.
Currently, we operate as a summer bar, open on days when the weather permits us, since we can only serve you on our terrace because of Covid-19 measures. We also provide a take-out service for cocktails, bottled for your comfort.
