A classic menu item found in kissatens! I loved this one that I had in kawagoe a lot because the toppings were PACKED in this version and the bread was super nice and thick too :) sometimes I find that the bread used at kissatens are a little dry depending on how it is prepared + what is put on top but for this one it was a delight! If you’re looking for a hearty lunch at a kissaten, id recommend this :)

This illustration is based on the サンドs I had at Mano E Mano coffee in Koenji! :) this was really cute and was my first time having actual fruit sands. It has very clean, fresh flavor and you can taste the sweetness of fruit without the cream getting overly sweet!! I think mentally I was kind of confused with the texture though since I think I was expecting something more moist(?) and sweet — like a Victoria sponge cake… but it was a nice afternoon snack!!

— born and raised in Hong Kong, moved to the states when I was 18 for university studies. Now im 20, I study in Tokyo, Japan, living one of my childhood dreams. I’m a sagittarius sun, gemini moon and rising… I have two dogs: Suki, and Kaido (named after Hokkaido after I got stranded there on Christmas Eve with my mom)☃️🎄🎄

Now that it’s December I thought that it would be a good time to reflect and reintroduce myself since this year, I decided to ‘reveal’ myself and stay faceless online. i’ve been on instagram for a long time, had multiple ‘anonymous’ art accounts -- I’ve met so much incredible and talented souls, and I’ve learnt so much through all these interactions!! Sometimes its hard to find people that share the same interests as me in my immediate surroundings, so I’m grateful for the internet… 🎧☁️💫✨🌀

I know for some people, having that clear separation between their work and themselves is something that is preferred, but for me, my preference is being a part of my work. A lot of my ‘art’ is related to my relationships with the world, with food, with the people I meet, the experiences I have, and honestly, I felt so much more connected with my craft after revealing myself? I also feel like I have to take responsibility for what I do, what I say, and things hold a greater importance to me now that my ‘identity’ is out there.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I’ll do a little Q&A soon, so please do leave me some questions either here or on my story! It’s lovely to meet all of you and thank you, for being here :)

— for letting me be who I am and letting me be myself without separating all my interests… for the longest time, I kept an anonymous identity online with my art account when I was younger- partially because I guess I didn’t want to be found? But I thought deeper about it.. maybe I just didn’t want my thoughts to be judged when I was younger, or let others see the other part of me. i admit to having a slight perfectionist mindset and to a degree, don’t want to show things that are a little bit more vulnerable, unfinished, and out there so it took me time to be ok with just being ‘me’ and where I am right now.

Still working on it but I do give myself a lot of pressure because I expect from myself, and that’s okay. I have goals and dreams im working towards and im confident that they’ll come, but I don’t have to rush them!! This is something that im still working on, constantly, and sometimes yeah, its hard in the month of December☃️ thank YOU for giving me that confidence, love and support. Really means a lot, and I really, truly appreciate it.⭐️

— you can probably tell that I had a phase where I was trying to find the best avocado places here in tokyo… because there are a lot of avocado toast drawings + red bean and butter toast drawings 🍞☁️ this one was interesting because I expected something salty… but the marmalade jam hit me with the sweet🫢🫢🥑🥑 it was a very bright flavor though!

Can’t believe that its December already— I dont know why I expected to see tokyo covered in snow (iy doesn’t snow in tokyo…) but im happy with the nice weather! Have been a sick for the past 2-3 days but im happy to say that im feeling much better now and can breathe when I sleep :) please take care everyone and don’t get sick!!

If you remember, I had this toast when I wasn’t feeling my best one or two months ago partially because I was really frustrated with myself with my ability to speak japanese…I was so saddened by the fact that I couldn’t understand what was going on in Japanese class and that stressed me out so, so much. I was just sad that I didn’t know more, and I felt so helpless at that point because my teacher barely spoke any English. I had so much expectations for myself and I ultimately got disappointed because I felt that I was falling behind and it was a feeling that I really disliked. I’m not great with words so I just wanted to express myself a little— at that point where I didn’t really know anyone, I was scared to put myself out there on SNS since I didn’t want to create ‘negative media’ but I knew I wanted to pick myself back up. And I wanted to document it too, so that if anyone is going through the same 気持ちs (feelings), you won’t feel like you’re alone.

なんか、最初日本に来た時、少し大変だった。日本語クラスはとても難しくて、自分に気になりました。「どうして、私は日本語がとても上手じゃないですか。どうしてあまりしていません？」自分の気持ちも日本語で話してできなかった。だから、悲しいになりましたけど、もっと頑張りたいと思いました。小さい時、日本は私の一番好き旅行どころです。文化とか、アニメとか、お菓子とか、全部だ好きですよ！日本で住んでいることは、私の夢だった。今、東京に住んでいます。。。少し信じらないです〜！今も、日本語があまり上手じゃないけどwwww毎日頑張っています。だから、日本語を勉強したい人々は、頑張ってください!

Now its two months later since that happened and im feeling much better- I don’t understand everything in class but im taking it slowly and just learning with my own pace. i only started learning japanese in university a year ago, and we didn’t use Genki… now having so much material being based on the Genki textbook in this new one, it has been a LOT. But im just happy with how far ive come and im working towards getting better~ language learning can stress you out for sure, and its the first time ive come to a foreign country without being fluent at the language and living here for the first time.

Been yet another very exciting and event-packed week. I’m really grateful for all the encounters and opportunities this week!! I’ve met so much incredible people this month so far and although there has been up and down moments, I take time to myself to think about my feelings and how I should move forward with them :) there are negative feelings sometimes and I dont deny them or invalidate them— I just think about how to move forward with them! It’s some character growth, I know haha :) 💫

also, this was my first visit to and its a much smaller spot than the shibuya store but its still so, so cozy. This is where I met a golden retriever called Ginger and the owner let me pet her… she was so sweet and really sometimes what we all need is just a hug from a dog😭☃️

The way Woodberry contributed to me liking americanos is actually crazy. I started drinking coffee 2 months ago so I can have more drink options at cafes but americanos were always really difficult to drink for me 🫢😪 but their roasts are SO flavourful even if it’s a long black coffee ☕️

This toast was so hearty and healthy for my soul hehe 🌳💕💝🍞 thoroughly enjoyed the vibes of woodberry and the servers were all so nice!! This was called the superfood plate and it was a great vegetarian option :”)

was doing some reflecting yesterday and I thought that I should share-
— in your 20s, you do a lot of things to discover yourself and your passions— what you want to do in life, and how you want to spend your time. I don’t think anyone really “teaches” you how to grow up, and it’s a process you really experience alone! but here’s some of my experiences just from doing the toast project for a year and where I started + reflection points.☁️💙

I get asked a lot about finding “style” and such but I believe first of all— work on the foundations and the more you do something, the more your art will change naturally on its own as you progress through the world and also take in more visual information from your daily life. I don’t know who this post will reach, but this is just how I approach art / social media right now. So good luck💝💝
