a+ student — I think that sometimes its actually harder to keep a conversation going when learning a new language… With the limited vocabulary I know, a lot of the times I have to slightly change/ alter what I actually want to say. I think that with communication, it’s easier to use ‘easy language’ to communicate and ask for clarification or ask if there is a better way to say it— and also yes, this might be quite anxiety-inducing but I find that I learn better by forcing myself to speak more!! Also by learning this way, it helps me to assimilate slang / more causal language more into my speaking to make it more natural too :) Obviously, if you do become friends with people you meet down the line and you get to develop that friendship… id probably pull out the すみませんけど、その時。。。私の日本語がちょっと下手でしたから、あまり話するごとはありません。。。

ヤバい🫢 — ive studied Japanese for 2 semesters before coming to Japan and I found my very first Japanese speaking practice video a few days ago and I cringed really hard, but at the same time, I realized how much I grew from it! did it :) — hmmm… yesterday I felt like going to the karaoke so I did- this was my first time going alone and to be honest, just hearing nothing but music and my own voice was an interesting experience. I don’t go to karaokes with others because I feel uncomfortable with my singing- not because of my technique, but of my voice? it’s not a clear voice, it’s very deep, airy / breathy voice. long story short my friend said something that made me feel some way. These few months I think I wanted to try singing again. I don’t need anyone to know that I sing, but recently, hearing people say that my voice has been very comforting to them to listen to really gave me the confidence and courage I needed. It felt relieving to just go to karaoke alone and sing, shout, be as loud as I want without fear. And I think I finally hear myself through my own ears again. I mean my singing isn’t perfect and it’s something that I want to work on. It just feels good to know that im not suppressing my voice anymore, and i’ve learnt to be more comfortable step by step. I’m glad I went to coin karaoke this summer with my best friend and she was just so, supportive and chaotic I couldn’t ask for more <3 ジャラちゃん　ありがとうね〜 Sharing this because I dont want to be scared, don’t want to hide or run away or ‘be shy’— I’m working on it and it’s okay :D so if you have any songs that you think would suit my voice!! Learn from observation🎨 — still-life: drawing from observation of non-moving objects / human-made objects. This practice helps you understand how to contrast light and dark, and id recommend starting this with just graphite pencils (monochromatic). 💻 For some people, their practices are different and the software comes first before the individual. But as a person that likes to draw/ illustrate, I try to think more about what I can do to make this ‘program’ even more personalized FOR ME. It’s a learning relationship between us and technology constantly, but in my opinion, being able to draw traditionally and understand shape, line, contrast and form can really transform you into an all-rounded artist 🖼🖌 Anyways! Senior year of high school I almost decided to apply for a business degree because of fear of things not working out— I could’ve thrown away my skills entirely and lived a new experience, starting fresh from what I used to know in the past. But to be able to pursue it further and really get to know more about art and design, I am so eternally grateful for. (Once again, mother…. Thank you mother for telling me that I was being a fool for letting go of my skills) For some people, this change can be something you desire and I think that’s completely FINE! But as someone that wanted to pursue a career in art for so, so long… suddenly having the anxiety catch up to my excitement was a lot, especially when it came to my next ‘big step in education’. I dont know who’s reading this, but please do what you love, or do something that really thrills you. It’s scary, I know… to walk on a path with much uncertainties and unknown variables. But if I can give you the encouragement to chase after your own dreams and goals, I’m happy. 

The fire sign in me goes, did they just CHALLENGE YOU? Oh they think you CAN’T? Oh HECK YEAH YOU CAN! And at one point the biggest rival you have in life is you :) so until then, keep working hard, take care of yourself, and give yourself love and compassion. POV: kai dealing with emotions 😆 — this one is always a difficult one // but we move forward! I don’t cry often because I realize that it doesn’t do me much so when I do cry, I feel so dramatic HAHAHAHA like wow. It’s so weird. This is also partially because the first time I went to a school counselor, I low-key started bawling out of stress and my counselor at that time was deaf and relied on lip-reading… so I felt really powerless because I was trying to enunciate those words well while also being super stressed crying…😭

This is the first time I’ve cried in Japan since moving and honestly it was an unexpected one? POV: artist on a solo date (/ on a day that wasn’t really a good day but) — A year ago, I started drawing toast every day. To be honest, this project started because I wanted to be inspired. I was tired of expecting things from the environment around me and having them not turn out how I expected, so I set myself my own set of rules… to me, bread was comfort because it was such a big part of my childhood — and I think since senior year of high school, drawing food became a therapeutic activity for me to kind of meditate and reflect…🍞💙☕️ It’s interesting to see that im kind of in a similar spot to last year. I was just, not very content with my academic career because my expectations weren’t quite met… and sometimes that creates a sort of friction but!! You know, I try to laugh it off a little bit and still smile through it. If you can’t go around it, you just have to go through it and try to make it more fulfilling for you. And that’s something I’m trying to do right now but it’s not easy… so it’s been a little difficile 🌠 Smiling does help to lift your mood— and tbh I don’t like being emotional but it’s just a part of me.. so yep..
