The Rose Valley in Bulgaria is where Marista’s natural skincare products are produced. The Valley is famous for its rose-growing industry which has been cultivated there for centuries, and which produces 85% of the world’s top rose oil. The Rose Valley is a region located between two mountains and two river valleys. It’s about 130 km long and 15 km wide, covering nearly 3,000 hectares. There are many towns of importance, but the centre of the rose oil industry is Kazanlak. And so it is always referred to as the Kazanlak Rose Valley.

Hand-Picking 🌹
In May and June every year, the roses in the Rose Valley bloom gorgeously, benefiting from the abundant rainfall and perfect sunshine ever-present in the valley. The Bulgarian rose harvesting season starts as soon as the flowers begin to open and continues until all rose blossoms have been gathered. The rose blossoms are still hand-picked according to the 300-year old tradition by nipping each individual blossom just below the calyx. Rose petals are picked at dawn, when there is still dew on petals and the flavor is strongest at the first rays of the sun. For keeping the oil yield at its highest, the fresh petals are immediately sent to distillation plants nearby.
