Remember that there is a risk that diabetes may affect your hearing and balance. Taking care of yourself and living a healthy lifestyle will help to reduce the likelihood of this (Manage your blood sugar, blood pressure & cholesterol).

Once again, October is National Audiology Awareness Month! Our hearing & balance are an integral part of our quality of life. Audiologists are the professionals who help to identify and potentially treat deficits in these areas.
This little guy had impressions done for custom molds that will accompany his hearing aids. Our focus is to maximize audibility and speech understanding so that he may acquire better speech & language skills.

Untreated hearing loss (even a mild degree) in young kids may negatively impact speech and language development, incidental learning and performance within the classroom.
Early intervention is crucial.

Early intervention is key to successful outcomes in children diagnosed with autism. Initial research by Harvard shows that autistic children's brains detect sounds with a delay. With future research, ABR (auditory brainstem response) newborn screenings and use of genetics may be used as a screening tool to help identify children who may need further diagnostic testing for autism spectrum disorder.
