My last couple months at home in The Bahamas I told my very supportive manager I am dedicating my time and energy to house and techno because that is the only form of this art I see as sustainable for me and the ETERNIC brand.

Fortunately, I had many venues recognize I was “the guy” they needed so I was able to put into practice exactly what I wanted for my brand. If you caught any of my last 20+ sets you would have noticed they were ALL 100% house/techno. (There were also venues and events that needed me but “politics” and ego got in the way)

I fully ditched the training wheels (laptop) and dived deeper into underground 4 on the floor music. With that I shifted my focus from playing what people believe they want to hear to providing an experience that cannot be forgotten, I fine tuned my ability to interact and exchange energy to and from the room/dancefloor.

DJs sound the same as the rest because they take the easy route of just playing at whatever venue lets them or if they’ve got some experience just playing at any venue that pays the most. Then they play whatever is dictated to them by venue managers, other DJs, any guest that tips, etc.

DJs have the obligation to dive within ourselves and listen to what makes us who we are. We are supposed to make people feel free. We are supposed to nudge people closer and closer to not caring what anyone thinks. You can’t do that playing exactly what every other semi popular DJ plays. Too many DJs are in it for the popularity, the money, etc.

Some of us are in it for those people on the dancefloor. We’re in it for you. We’re in it for the music. The only way to really touch souls and make your way all the way up the ladder past the semi popular “look at me” DJs is to be as authentic as possible. Is to build a fanbase around exactly what YOU love. Not what people make you feel you should be playing.

With these realizations I’ve given myself the skill, energy, drive and rekindled the passion to be able to compete in any market. My patience will continue to be tested but I’m in this for the long run and I encourage every artist that has made it this far in this post to do the same.

Wrecks aren’t for everyone. There’s something creepy yet so intriguing about them. Some find that wrecks make their skin crawl. Others, like myself, find peace and calmness around them and especially within them. Everything is still. It’s a place for meditation and reflection. A place to sink deeper into the moment, more so than diving itself already is.
