Once again Lit!
We are trained to take it slow on Sundays, but there was no slowing down; nor lack of excitement. Every group was an absolute pleasure. TS was definitely a great weekend experience for everyone.
Glad to have meet so many new people, and interact with a plethora of long-time art lovers. Thank you all for coming out, and the continued support!

And of course, a special shout out to art gallery for hosting me and my wonderful partner in crime /

As far as we can see, we are surrounded by water. Water is the endless horizon bounding each of our islands and cays. But the kind of water we wait for, long for and need to sustain life comes in the form of RAIN.

RAIN WATER is necessary to create PLANT LIFE. As groundwater it is essential for NOURISHMENT, HYDRATION and also for HYGIENE. It is used by amphibians and insects for REPRODUCTION but at the same time it can be the source for waterborne ILLNESSES. It is indispensable for human and animal SURVIVAL and yet it can come in FLOODS and NATURAL DISASTERS, bringing not life but DEATH.

Throughout time, the list of RAIN deities is long and they touch us through the manifold religions and mythologies known to us.

Without RAIN there is no life.

For the 40th Anniversary Open Call we would like to dedicate the competition to this essential part of our world.
​
Like in the past competitions, we invite visual artists, musicians, poets, sculptors, film makers, designers, animators, digital media artists and other inventive souls to present and surprise with their ideas and creations regarding the 2023 theme: RAIN.

Time is winding down and we are gearing up for The Bahamas Culinary & Arts Festival: FUZE Caribbean Art Fair🌟

Here are a few more images (and more still to come) from the 'Black Artists of Oregon' exhibition currently on display at the . Curated by Intisar Abioto.
I also have a few videos of some very intriguing performances - I'll post seperately since IG only can count to 10.

Overall, not only was it Intriguing, and definitely painful in some ways, it's pretty uplifting also.
Do any of these artist styles remind you of artist styles from the carribean diaspora? Especially from artists within the Bahamas. Do these images even resonate with us as a predominantly black post colonial nation (and a young nation at that, 50 years ain't long bey)

Remember the exhibition is still up until March 17th 2024, so if you are passing through the area or just looking for something outside of the white art space then check it out!

I wish I could have attended this my Uncle, but I know he is grinning up there somewhere and probally painting still with some jazz playing in the background. 💙

"Black artists of Oregon" opened last week at and I can not truely express how amazing and a bit overwhelming it felt to see my uncle, the late Philemon Reid, paintings amoung decades and generations of work by black artists. (My self talk in regards to working harder in my art practice is on 1000!!🙃, and trying my darnedest to keep it positive)

Black artists of Oregon curated by Intisar Abioto, captures the Black diasporic experiences particular to the Pacific Northwest with 69 artists and over 200 objects.

"Considering both the presence and absence of Black artists is critical to understanding the breadth of Black artistic production in Oregon- even in the midst of historic exclusion- as well as how the impact of that history affects our understanding of American art history."
"Black artists of Oregon is a heralding of Black presence, interchange, influence, and impact."

Our days exist between light and dark and the inbetween is how we transverse between the two.

How we experience and ultimately visualize these periods depends heavily on our environmental, physiological and psychological states.

Breeze blocks (peep holes) series

Experiencing these periods of time hidden away behind breeze blocks caused visual disruption which subjected my visualization of these time periods mainly reliant on the surrounding sound, light, scents and overall internal state. These blocks in a way act in permeable manner as that of a cell wall.

Wow! I really love @marlonwayans for this. This is my exact thought process and it’s funny cause these are the exact two cars that I have. Happiness cost nothing. I actually cringe when I see people on social media floss their material. I understand that’s what impresses most people. But none of that is real. What’s real is relationships, family, memories, spiritual connections. Nice things are nice to have, but experiences are even better. For me, wealth is not about how much money you have, it’s about how many people you can help. #askconstance
