Ol Doinyo Lengai,
The Mountain of God
"Ol Doinyo Lengai" means "The Mountain of
God" in the Maasai language. The top of this
volcano lies 2962 metres above sea level and
offers a direct view into the caldera of Tanzania's
only officially recognised active volcano. It has
erupted twice this century and is known for its
unique low- temperature carbonatite lava.
A moonlit night climb to the top of the famous

Activities

FLAMINGO LAKE WALK
-
Lake Natron in the Rift Valley is the preferred mating
ground of the endangered Lesser flamingo. This guided
walk departs from the camp. The best time to see these
birds at Lake Natron: Natron flamingos normally lay their
eggs at the end of the dry season in September and
October, and hatching reaches its peak in December. It is
an amazing sight when the grey chicks are strong enough
to be led to fresh water by their parents.
FOOTPRINTS OF HUMANOIDS
-
The Engaresero Footprint Site, located on the south side of
Lake Natron, 13 km from Africa Safari Lake Natron, is said to
contain the best preserved fossilised human footprints in
the world. The more than 400 footprints form the largest
group of footprints found in Africa, are between 5.000 and
19.000 years old, and came to the attention of scientists in 2008

NGARE SERO WATERFALL
-
The moderate one-hour walk along the
western edge of Lake Natron, leads to a
series of narrow gorges and waterfalls
of the Ngare Sero River. Hiking, rock
climbing, wading through the river
(sometimes up to your thighs) leads you to a magical place where you can actually swim in the slot canyons, take a refreshing shower under the waterfall or just enjoy the view. You will be accompanied by a Maasai guide from the local cultural centre. A refreshing activity on a hot day at Lake Natron

OL DOINYO LENGAI ASCENT
-
One hour before midnight, your driver will take you to the foot of Ol Doinyo Lengai to start the ascent at midnight.
The duration of the climb and descent combined is 7-9 hours. You will be accompanied by a Maasai from the local cultural centre. Before you start this trip, you should understand that it is a tough and challenging climb.

WALK THROUGH THE VILLAGE OF ENGARESERO
-
Take a guided walk through the village of Engaresero (6 km from
the camp) and meet Maasai men, elders, warriors, women with their beadwork and their children. You will learn about Maasai pastoralism and their pride, culture and traditions.

Safari Jeep
-
An open four-wheel drive or a safari jeep with pop-up roof for hire on request, including driver and fuel. Your driver guide is very knowledgeable and will make sure to give you as much time as you need to ask questions, take pictures and
enjoy the incredible landscape.

DEVELOPMENTS
-
All the main roads in the area are now maintained by
Tanroads. Between Mto wa Mbu (Lake Manyara) and
Klein's gate, there are plans to construct an asphalt
road to make travel for Tanzanians and tourists
more comfortable. (almost 50 km has already been
completed). TANESCO (Tanzania's electricity company)
is also working on improving the electricity network, by
constructing power lines between the 2 destinations

The Tsabong Camel Park

The Tsabong Camel Park lies approximately 10km from the town of Tsabong which is in southwest Botswana and about 500km by metalled road from Gaborone, the capital. It comprises a fenced area of 3200 hectares lying just north of and parallel to the main highway.

The Botswana Tourism Organisation is currently assisting by training camels in the facility which shall be used to take tourists on camel rides. Six chalets have also been constructed which shall be used to accommodate guests.

01/04/2022

The Seboba Cultural Village and recreational Park

The Seboba cultural village and recreational park project came about after the Kasane community identified the seboba rapids area as ideal for tourist recreational activities and entertainment through observing traditional dances and lifestyle. They felt that tourists visiting Kasane are currently only offered game drives and boat cruises which has resulted in them staying in the area for short periods of time.

Botswana Tourism Organisation is assisting with the construction of four cultural villages, a park gate, an information centre, curio shop, dance arena, walking trails and an observation point at commissioner’s kop.

Recent research has also shown that growing numbers of tourists would like more meaningful contact with local communities, including informative interactions. Diversifying to meet this demand could provide low-cost economic opportunities for local people, creating a more rounded and sustainable tourism product.

Ecotourism should not be seen as a monoculture or panacea; it should always be envisioned as a complementary component of other activities. Management and stewardship by the local community is an important part of education and vital to the long-term survival of the resource. It will also contribute to raise pride regarding the local heritage.

It is in this regard that the Kasane community secured a piece of land (the project area) to venture in to tourism in order to address current issues in the tourism sector in their region, avoid unacceptable resource impacts in Seboba and respond to the public desires and concerns regarding the utilisation of Seboba area while at the same bringing economic rewards to the community of Kasane. The envisaged clientele are local residents, tourists lodging in Kasane, visiting school groups, self drivers and visitors including day trippers.

31/03/2022

Moremi-Mannonye Community Trust

The Moremi-Mannonye Community trust was granted use of the Moremi Gorge heritage site by the Department of National museum, Monuments and Art Gallery (NMMAG). The community has opened the gorge to the public and has been deriving economic benefits through the collection of gate entry fees.

The Botswana Tourism Organization has embarked on a project to improve and enhance tourist activity in the area through the construction of a motor vehicle bridge across Lotsane River, building of accommodation facilities (Chalets), establishing a new campground with ablution facilities and creating nature trails that connect the different attraction sites within the Conservation Area.

A perimeter fence will also be constructed around the area to allow the introduction of small game. This will enable the enhancement of available activities to include game drives and walking safaris.
