We have been seeing an upsurge of Mumps cases, here is some information to help you understand better!

MUMPS/MAKIDIANE

Mumps is a common viral condition affecting salivary glands. (Makidiane ke bolwetse jo bo itshupang ka go ruruga ditlhaa)

Common in children under the age of 15 ( A tshabelela bana ba dingwaga tse di ha tlase ga 15)

Highly contagious ( Makidiane a motlhofo go tshelwana), Kids with mumps should not go to school ( Bana ba makidiane ga ba a tshwanela go ya Sekolong).

TREATMENT/KALAFHI: Because Mumps are caused by a virus, the treatment is supportive, Paracetamol (To help with pain and fever), High water intake. Always remember ANTIBIOTICS ARE NOT! indicated for Mumps.

NB: Always take your child to be reviewed by the doctor in case it may not be MUMPS, Toro Clinic is OPEN for you.

Tinea/ Pityriasis Versicolor (MADI)

This is a common fungal skin infection caused by a fungus known as Malassezia.

Malassezia lives on the surface of everyone's skin. Sometimes this yeast overgrows and causes the patchy rash.This happens most often in warm moist climates like Botswana. Most people with this condition are in good health.

It can be cured, Most patients are treated with topical antifungal agents that are applied to the skin.The rash of pityriasis versicolor often comes back. Your doctor may then have to prescribe oral antifungal medicines. We know it can be irritating!

MYTH: Acid ya Battery does not work and may be harmful to your skin!
