Jane Scotch has been an ex-officio member of the BUP-CAB since 2019. Jane serves as a coordinator of the CAB. She is a professional nurse, and an aspiring implementation scientist with a Master of Science in Epidemiology, and Bachelor of Nursing Science. She has 15+ years of experience in clinical practice and nursing education. Jane is passionate about improving healthcare through effective uptake of evidence-based interventions.

Lorato Tabona has been a member of the BUP-CAB since 2023. She is an experienced Legal and Compliance Officer-cum-Board Secretary at Boitekanelo College. Well-versed in education, healthcare, and business legal frameworks. She is leading the formulation of internal policies on ethical research practices and is dedicated to fostering a culture of research and publication. Lorato is a trusted advisor for corporate governance, and a former Prosecutions Counsel with a strong background in criminal litigation. Extensive experience in civil and corporate commercial litigation. She is well known for rational and impartial decision-making.

Keefelakae Moloi has been a member of the BUP-CAB since 2023. He is a Management Professional and Seasoned Administrator with over 16 years of experience in the field. His expertise lies in Finance, with specializations in Financial Management and Investment and Portfolio Management, and he has a comprehensive understanding of all business functional areas. Additionally, he has qualifications in sports management and coaching. Mr. Moloi started his career as a lecturer, teaching various business-related subjects. He later focused on Student Affairs and Wellness, where he played a leading role in policy development and student support initiatives. He is also passionate about marketing and has been actively involved in marketing the institutions he has worked for.

Karabo Rajie Kesegofetse

Karabo Rajie Kesegofetse is a member of the BUP – CAB since 2023. Karabo is dedicated to promoting human rights, particularly within the LGBTIQA++ community in Botswana. Karabo is an engaged member of LEGABIBO, actively advocating through the Community Advocates program. He has successfully established support groups for LGBTI/MSM individuals, leading awareness campaigns and fostering acceptance. Has participated in community outreach initiatives involving making s*xual reproductive commodities like HIV testing and counselling (HTC) and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) are accessible to men who have s*x with men (MSM) in Botswana. He is also a proud member of the Youth Coalition for Sexual Reproductive Rights, dedicated to promoting meaningful youth engagement. ++

Oaitse Tshotlego has been a member of the BUP-CAB since 2021. She is a deeply committed volunteer and has been engaged in several health campaigns during the COVID-19 pandemic. Besides her volunteerism, she holds an Advanced Certificate in Environmental Health and Safety and is currently pursuing CIPS (Diploma) with the British Council. She has served as a SHE officer, procurement officer, and quality controller long her career journey. She is currently in the diamond industry working as a Diamond Planner. She finds immense gratification in serving her community and making impactful changes.

She has served as a lay counselor, health care assistant in many settings providing HIV testing and counselling, as well as psycho-social support. Onalethata Mpebe has been a member of the BUP-CAB since 2021. She is passionate about improving lives affected by HIV/AIDS. She is the founder of "Positive Moments", committed to HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, care, and support, focusing on fighting stigma, promoting self-acceptance, and empowering behavioral change. In her journey as an HIV activist, Onalethata has initiated impactful campaigns like . She has been recognized as a PEPFAR Hero, International Visitors Leadership Program participant, and Treat All Champion. She is currently serving on advisory boards for BUP and University of California.

Dr Dudu Jankie

Member – BUP Community Advisory Board|| Senior Lecturer||Researcher||

Dr Dudu Jankie has been a member of the BUP-CAB since 2019. Dr. Dudu Jankie is a senior lecturer in the Department of Languages and Social Sciences Education, Faculty of Education at the University of Botswana. She completed her PhD at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2001. Dr. Jankie has been a member of the UB-IRB since 2011. She has a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Research Ethics that she obtained from Stellenbosch University in South Africa in 2016. She is the chairperson of the University of Botswana Socio Behavioral Internal Review Board Committee. She is also a former chairperson of the BUP-CAB. Her research interests include community engagement in the research process, collaborative research processes, and culturally sensitive research.

Hon Thebe Terence Baile has been a member of the BUP-CAB since 2018. Hon Baile is also a distinguished figure serving as the councilor for Woodhall ward in Lobatse, Botswana. He is a medical nutritionist with a solid healthcare and wellness background. Hon Baile is a former Health Advisor for the Botswana Government, making significant contributions to public health. He has also served as the President of the Cancer Association of Botswana (2014-2019), championing cancer awareness and support. He is passionate about harnessing the power of nutrition for optimal health. His unique blend of experience as a Medical Nutritionist, Health Advisor, and President of the Cancer Association underscores his commitment to improving healthcare and promoting well-being within his community and beyond.

Alpheus T. Lemme has been a member of the BUP-CAB since 2018. Alpheus is a trained Medical Social Worker specializing in Child Health from the University of Cape Town and University of Pretoria, respectively. Currently a PhD candidate in Clinical Social Work at the University of Botswana, focusing on pediatric oncology. He is also an internationally Certified Addiction specialist with over 10 years of experience working with hospitals in Botswana and South Africa. He is passionate about pediatric health, substance use treatment and recovery, law and health, s*xuality issues, and health innovation. h. Kutlwano Mothudi has been a member of the BUP–CAB since 2022, she is currently the Secretary of the board. Kutlwano holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Botswana. She is passionate about mental health and human rights advocacy. Kutlwano has extensive experience working with children, adolescents, young adults, the elderly, members of the LGBTIQ community, and individuals with mental health challenges. She has also developed and facilitated community outreach and psychosocial support projects targeting workplaces, schools, religious groups, trauma survivors, and more. Kutlwano is a researcher and published author on psychosocial adjustment among university students. She envisions a mentally fit society to combat social ills.

Amuchilane Willie has been a member of the BUP-CAB since 2022, and she is currently the vice-chairperson of the board. Amuchilane is a passionate and a fervent advocate for social justice, with a particular emphasis on gender equality and women's empowerment. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences with a focus on Public Administration and Sociology from the University of Botswana. Amuchilane has taken leadership roles and served as a coordinator in the Young Women's Leadership Project under the African Gender Institute, mobilizing change agents and challenging patriarchal norms. As a research assistant, she has contributed valuable insights on issues affecting women in Botswana and beyond. Amuchilane is committed to creating positive change and driving meaningful impact through active involvement in community development projects and outreach programs.

Throughout her career, Lisa has positively impacted the lives of individuals struggling with mental health issues. OVERVIEW OF THE CAB

The Botswana UPenn Partnership (BUP) Community Advisory Board (CAB) was established in 2018 to serve as a voice for the communities where studies under BUP are conducted. The CAB exist to ensure that research strategies acknowledge and respect the values and cultural norms of the involved communities and study participants. Thus, the CAB provides input on protocol design in terms of strengths and/or weaknesses related to local study procedures for effective study implementation, community education and engagement, participant recruitment, and retention. The CAB also provides opportunities for the communities to understand the research process, voice concerns, and support the development, implementation, and outcomes of research conducted under BUP.
