Episode 11: ''From Lobatse to Marlborough House: The Making of Botswana's Independence constitution'' Ko Isong Programme
Ko isong Public lecture episode 11
From Lobatse to Marlborough House: the making of Botswana's (Independence) Constitution.
As its colonies aspired for independence, Britain bequeathed to them a written constitution even though Britain did not have one. In the case of Botswana the constitution was a product of long and arduous consultation process that started at Lobatse in 1961 and culminated in 1966 at Marlborough House, London. Our constitution was a product of its time, part of a second "wave" of written constitutions. This talk will trace and expand on the five-year process of negotiating Botswana's independence constitution.
Join us on the 24th November 2023 for another exciting episode of the Ko isong public lecture series.
