MINISTRY OF HEALTH INTRODUCES THE FIRST EVER DEPARTMENT OF NURSING AND MIDWIFERY SERVICES

The Ministry of Health has introduced the first ever Department of Nursing and Midwifery Services. The main aim of this department is to coordinate nursing and midwifery services nationally.

Pursuant to this historic development, the National Chief Nursing Officer Ms Khumo Modisaeman, has been appointed as the first ever Director of Nursing and Midwifery Services.

Ms Modisaeman, an accomplished nurse and midwife professional and academic, holds high qualifications in Nursing and Midwifery professions, up to Master’s degree level. She is a highly experienced Nursing and Midwifery practitioner with more than 30 years of experience in the field. She has also previously served as the Registrar of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Botswana.

The creation of this department and position, will therefore, help Government and the Ministry move the Nursing and Midwifery profession forward, given the influence and perspectives that it will bring to decision making platforms. It will also afford Batswana an opportunity to benefit more from what nurses and midwives have to offer.
