APPRECIATION DINNER FOR BEST PERFORMING SCHOOLS IN THE NORTH WEST REGION
Hon. K. Ntsogotho at the appreciation dinner held in honor of best performing schools hosted by North West District Council and courteously sponsored by Water Utilities Corporation,Maun as a way of giving back to the community through Corporate Social Responsibility.
The two schools being celebrated are Sankoyo Primary School which ranked position one in the 2022 PSLE and Maitlamo Junior Secondary School which scooped first position among junior schools in the North West Region in the 2022 JCE.
Best Performing teachers from both schools were bestowed with awards as well as the schools themselves which were received on behalf of the schools by School Heads.

MESD-North West Region receives a donation of library books worth BWP 1.2 Million from Okavango Research Institute in collaboration with Macmillan Botswana.
These books will be distributed to schools in the region (primary,junior and senior school level). This gesture was warmly received and appreciated by the Director, Regional Operations. Gumare Sub Region 2022 PSLE Result Analysis run under the theme โMY LEADERSHIP AND ACADEMICSโ
When motivating his colleagues renowned and result oriented School Head at Gumare Primary School Mr. Keneilwe Banks says for a leader to achieve results and have great teaching staff, they must have a strategic plan in place which is an effective management tool. Moreover he encouraged attendees to be Dedicated, Motivated and Committed towards their work for improvement of school results country wide.
Gumare Primary school under the leadership of โBanksโ as heโs well known scooped POSITION ONE in the 2022 PSLE with 81.5% pass rate.
Officials from the Ministry of Education and Skills Development North West Region led by Director, Regional Operations, Ms Veronicah Mochotlhi started this month by a storm as they visited some Junior and Primary Schools in the region on a quest to analyze and review the 2022 PSLE and JCE results.
This annual activity aims at is discussing, helping schools understand how students are learning, share challenges and interventions/strategies that will assist in enhancing teaching and improving school results.
The various schools management were encouraged to effectively implement leadership styles that would ensure progress in teacher performance hence provision of proper and quality education to all students.
Meetings culminated with a meet and greet session of member of staff of some of the schools visited. Attendees took time to interact with the MESD North West Region officials for address of various issues affecting them.

PLACEMENT OF JCE PRIVATE CANDIDATES INTO FORM FOUR FOR THE 2023 SCHOOL CALENDAR YEAR
The Ministry of Education and Skills Development would like to inform the Junior Certificate Examination (JCE) private candidates who resat their examinations and requested for the merging of their results with the Botswana Examination Council that information about their placement will be available at Regional Education Offices from the 9th March 2023.

BEETSHA PRIMARY SCHOOL RECEIVES ICT GADGETS
The Ministry of Education and Skills Development highly notes donations like these as one of the most significant and very welcome gestures. Itโs is actually a wish that such continue to hit the primary school environment as currently the governmentโs focus of school digitization is at senior secondary school level.
This week Beetsha Primary school in the North West Region received 25 Mercer tablets, a charging and storage unit, laptop and a projector from Uncharted Africa Safari Company. The Safari company operates in the concession where the village of Beetsha is found. As part of its corporate social responsibility, UA as affectionately known saw it fit to give back to the commmunity of Beetsha by playing a role towards improving the school results and better access to information by both students and teachers.
For her part, Director Operations North West Region Ms Veronicah Mochotlhi stated that it is her Ministryโs mandate to ensure that all children across the country have access to equitable education. It is through these kind of initiatives that equal distribution and access to education is achieved. She uttered sincere appreciation to Uncharted Africa Safaris Company and further implored them to continue with the good spirit of giving especially towards academics of individual pupils in the region as this does not only bring about positive change in school results but also may produce significant ripple effect in the economic activities of the villages due to exposure towards various information.
โDELIVERING A 21st CENTURY LEARNERโ
PLACEMENT OF 2023 FORM FOUR STUDENTS
The Ministry of Education and Skills Development informs the public that the selection process for 2023 Form Four placement is complete. All the 2023 Form Fours are expected to report to their respective schools on Tuesday 28th February 2023. Students admitted as boarders will report on Monday 27th February 2023.
Information on all studentsโ placement will be available in all Secondary Schools and Regional Education Offices countrywide.
The Ministry has introduced a Short Messaging Services [SMS] notification, accessible from all the three local Mobile network service providers.
To access student placement via SMS, students are advised to compose the message as follows;
Step 1:- Form4 (space) Centre Number (space) Candidate Number (space) Candidate Surname, e.g Form4 JC0101 0005 Malepa
Step 2: - Send your message to this number 16688
Step 3: - You will then receive information about your placement.
Please note that the criterion used for placement was based on catchment areas and the need to balance school enrolments. Therefore, all studentsโ transfers will be done at Schools and Regional level.

CHANGE OF VENUE-CLASS OF 2022 GRADUATION CEREMONY FOR BRIGADES AND TECHNICAL COLLEGES
Members of the Media and the public are informed that the venue for the Class of 2022 Graduation for 32 Brigades and 4 certificate offering Technical Colleges of Maun, Jwaneng, Palapye and Selibe Phikwe scheduled for 17th February 2023, at 07:00hrs has changed to Baisago University College, Block7, Gaborone instead of Wagga Gardenex, Gaborone as previously communicated.

CHILDREN STAKEHOLDERS MEET
Ministry of Education and Skills Development North West Region officials met the National Childrenโs Council (NCC) under the auspices of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development. The NCC established under the Childrens Act of Botswana is a body that is mandated with advocacy, support for and ensure implementation and monitoring of programs that are tailor made for children in the country.
The duo held a roundtable to discuss challenges and issues affecting children in regard to their education in the North West Region. Several issues were touched on including various types of abuse on children, bullying in schools, school dropouts, in-conducive environments that children are raised in which in turn affect pupilโs performance/school results in different ways.
When rounding up the meeting, MESD advised the NCC as an advocate for children to seriously consider having a research and investigation wing to work on such issues discussed to assist in building good citizenry of this country both socially and education wise. The two stakeholders shall work hand in hand to create child friendly schools in the region.

MAITLAMO JUNIOR SCHOOL CELEBRATES 2022 JCE RESULTS
Maitlamo Junior Secondary School students, staff and alumi took it to the streets of Maun today in delight of their 2022 Junior Certificate Examination results.
Since its establishment in 2018, this is the first jubilation for the school. The school has managed to scope a whooping 50% pass rate hence clinging onto position one overall performance in the North West Region. Mr Chitunga, a teacher at the school urged students who will be sitting for their final exam at the end of 2023 to take todayโs activity as persuasion to work harder to achieve the 60% target they have set for themselves for the end of year.
As a Ministry inclined to โdelivering the 21st century learner,โ sharing the success with pupils this morning was a great privilege.

Recently Great Plains Conservation held a 2 weeks annual camp for 50 Environmental Conservation (Eco) Club members from Seronga, Gunotsoga, Eretsha, Beetsha and Gudigwa Primary Schools. The camp exposed Eco club members to various professions within the tourism industry, safari experience, waste management strategies as well as human wildlife co-existence.
