Moremi Game Reserve (MGR) still closed due to flooding
MGR is still closed due to flooding caused by recent massive rainfalls.
Visits to the park have been suspended since February 19.
Regional wildlife coordinator Dimakatso Ntshebe said the closure was caused by rainfalls:
"The situation is caused by continous rainfall that has flooded roads and washed away our pole bridges. We will continue to monitor the situation. We had hoped it will be opened by mid march but we still need time to assess the situation as some roads are still submerged"
The department will make an announcement when the park will be reopened.
Hallo everyone, hope you all good during this crazy time...we missing you on safari in Botswana!!! Unfortunately this crises hits us hard...exactly 1 year now without any income, beside some peanuts from our goverment🤨. So far we continued to pay our staff and all running overheads.....but this is drying slowly but surely up. During this month we have to consider to close our doors for good or some of you will jump on this rescue bandwagon...
Planet Wilderness likes to sell 40 of its shares to the public Euro 150 a share or buy safari bednights (fully inclusive in Botswana) for Euro 200 a night (normally Euro 350 per night) for the future.......in case of interest please email for further information [email protected].
Thanks and in hope Planet Wilderness will survive🐘🦏🦒🌴
Looking for a way to link Europe with Botswana?
Fly with Ethiopian Airlines via Addis Ababa to Victoria Falls and Gaborone. We realise that many clients are not aware of this connection.
Ethiopian Airlines flies from the main cities in Europe to Victoria Falls and on to Gaborone. Since Victoria Falls is the first stop on this route we recommend your clients start their safari in Victoria Falls and end in Maun. From Maun clients can then fly on Air Botswana to Gaborone. Another great alternative for your clients is to book a Victoria Falls return flight for a pure Zimbabwe safari.
The departure flight from Gaborone goes directly to Addis and not via Victoria Falls, making this routing smoother. Our team of consultants would be happy to assist with your clients travel planning.
Recently some of our colleagues travelled from Europe to Botswana with Ethiopian Airlines and they had a seamless and a great flying experience.

PRIVATE AIR CHARTER TO BOTSWANA FOR TOURISM PURPOSES
The Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism is pleased to inform members of the public and the international community that Botswana is ready to receive private charter flights from 1st November 2020. The private charter flights will be allowed at two ports of entry namely, Maun and Kasane International Airports.
Government is finalizing the required legislative framework to facilitate such air travel which will include protocols for compliance.
Thank you.
Botswana: Mystery elephant deaths caused by cyanobacteria Toxins made by algae in water holes caused 330 elephant deaths in Botswana earlier this year.
African safaris are designed for social distancing, and experts say it could be a fight to book a spot for 2021😎
Fingers crossed😉
Directs flights to Maun finally
In what could be good news to the tourism sector, government is contemplating to introduce direct flights from Europe to Maun in a move aimed at facilitating the development of the tourism sector post covid-19.
This was revealed by the Minister of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism when addressing North West District leadership and other tourism stakeholders in Maun on Thursday.
‘We want to have a dialogue with Air Botswana and Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana for direct flights to land in Maun directly this will catalyse tourism growth in Botswana. ‘
Maun International Airport is currently serviced by Airlink and Air Botswana from Johannesburg’s OR Tambo Hub. However lack of direct flights from Europe has been blamed as a hindrance for tourists flying to Botswana’s destinations.
Wow.....
Delta do Okavango visto do espaço!
After the moonshine stroll last night from my home....here the official news pics from this morning.
Finally 9th May 1:31 am the water arrived at the Boro/Thamakalane junction. Just a 5min stroll under a bright moon from my house🤗
TWO RIVERS' RACE TO MAUN
As we wait for the water to snake around Boro's biggest and deepest curves, we take a look at other rivers in the system. It looks like the flows from Santantandibe on the east have beaten Boro by reaching part of the Thamalakane River first. Note that last year water had reached only up to Daunara, and so the 2020 flood pushed the water much faster into Thamalakane River. There is even more water coming from Gomoti River behind Mochaba and Shorobe. This means it is now a two rivers' race for the water to reach Matapana, Maun between Boro River and Thamalakane (water from Santantandibe & Gomoti). If the Boro flow hits Matapana first, part of its water will backflow into Thamalakane, until the flow from Santantandibe & Gomoti push everything forward. On the western side, Xudum River is also making fast progress to Nxaraga to pour into Kunyere.
So, which waters do you think will arrive into Matapana first, and when?
Heute Nachmittag 17:00 Uhr noch 16 km Flussverlauf bis Maun...fantastic 😁
