Overall we are pleased with the provincial government's new ma*****na laws as they will apply to rental tenancies. Our current regulations prohibiting the smoking and cultivation of ma*****na, combined with pre-existing non-smoking regulations mean that Meadowood will remain a safe and family-friendly property.

"Residential Tenancy Act and Manufactured Home Park Tenancy Act to prohibit cannabis smoking under existing leases that prohibit smoking to***co and to prohibit the personal cultivation of cannabis under existing leases, except for federally authorized medical cannabis. For new leases, the existing provisions of each Act that allow landlords and tenants to negotiate the terms of leases will apply"

Abbotsford Police Department

Over 140 wildfires are currently burning in British Columbia, yet people continue to throw their cigarette butts out their windows even as we face tinder-dry conditions.

Earlier today, a patrol officer observed a lit cigarette butt being thrown from a vehicle. This resulted in a hefty $575 fine being issued under the Wildfire Act.

Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service, Deputy Chief Adams reminds people NOT to discard smoking materials in dry potted plants, bark mulch or dry grass.

We are seeing so many well-qualified applicants who, in any other year, we would have jumped at the chance to rent to. Obviously it is the goal of any rental property to be 100% full but having to turn away great potential tenants knowing they are most likely not going to find another place, or are going to have to settle for a place that isn't ideal for them, is really tough.
