You know you have a septic system.
You know that it needs to be emptied.
But do you know how it works?

A septic system has a simple design. It is an underground watertight container (mostly rectangular or round) made of fiberglass, plastic or concrete.
The tank is connected with two pipes (for inlet and outlet). The inlet pipe collects the water waste in the septic tank, long enough that the solid and liquid waste is separated from each other. The outlet pipe also called the drain field, moves out the preprocessed wastewater from the septic tank and spreads it evenly in the soil and watercourses.
After a while, the wastewater separates in 3 layers.
The top layer is oils and grease and floats above all the waste. This is called scum.
The middle layer is the wastewater along with waste particles.
The bottom layer consists of heavier particles that are heavier than water and form a layer of sludge.
Inside the tank bacteria from the wastewater breaks down the solid waste.
These bacteria decompose the solid waste rapidly allowing the liquids to separate and drain away more easily.

SOMETHING LITTLE ABOUT OUR PUMPERDADS

Ravi is our owner/operator and is father to Memphis(9) & Ava(7). They are our older pumperkids who have had their own hands on experience assisting their dad on the job! Memphis not only rides along with Ravi but he also gets his hands dirty and holds the pumps! Ava is always on the street with her mom, door to door, saying thank you to our amazing customers and finding new ones. Such a hard working little family

Geremy is Ravi's first hire outside of his immediate family. Geremy has two children, Abigayle(3) & Owen(8months). Abigayle has ridden in daddy's truck when they volunteered to pump the fields at Exhibition Park, Abbotsford to prevent a tournament from being rained out. She is also very good at telling daddy to "go potty" when he comes home extra smelly from farm jobs 🙈

Jordan is the newest member of our pumperguy family. He is Geremy's identical twin if you have not noticed yet! He also has two children, Carter(3) and Chloe(7months). Now that he has successfully obtained his class 1 licence Carter will be riding shot gun in no time!

On Tuesday our contest winner Claudia and her husband Fred attended the Abbotsford Tulip Festival with 2 of their friends! The pictures she sent us were so beautiful!

The best part was, when the pictures were sent I noticed her husband was my woodshop teacher(my favourite teacher) in middle school! I love the small world we live in 💕

05/02/2019

This photo is a few months old but it was a fun memory, one of the things Memphis loves to do is climb on the trucks, it used to make me uncomfortable the same level of uncomfortableness when he is wearing his thick winter jacket with shorts and runners. Some things I’m sure I’ll never fully understand... I love him and what I do understand is special moments like this are priceless, these are the moments I love being a dad 😄

Thank you for supporting us, trusting us and encourage us through the good times and difficult times. In all honesty the last few years have been the most difficult of our life, it’s been an epic struggle but it’s also been amazing, beautiful and sometimes a lot of fun!

We’re really grateful, and thankful for all of you who have got our family and small business this far, we love you and appreciate you loads!

SYSTEM FAILURE

If you notice any of these warning signs contact a PUMPERGUYS immediately for assistance.

▪︎Odors, surfacing sewage, wet spots or lush vegetation growth in the drain field area.

▪︎Plumbing or septic tank backups.

▪︎Gurgling sounds in the plumbing system.

▪︎Slow draining fixtures.

Once solids have flowed into the drain field and caused damage, pumping the septic tank will not bring a failed drain field back to life.

04/19/2019

WHEN TO PUMP YOUR SEPTIC TANK

Once a year, inspect the tank yourself or have a septic tank technician check the levels. Also, periodically inspect the drain field areas for odors, wet spots or surfacing sewage. State and County regulations may require inspections more frequently on some systems.

WHEN THE BOTTOM OF THE SCUM IS WITHIN 3" OF THE BOTTOM OF THE OUTLET DEVICE, THE TANK SHOULD BE PUMPED.

To measure scum accumulation, nail a 3" square block to a 6' pole and poke the block through the scum layer. Carefully move the pole up and down to feel the resistance as you move the block up against the bottom of the scum layer. Mark that place on the pole that is level with ground. Then feel around for the bottom of the outlet pipe and mark that level on the pole, if the two marks are 3" or less apart, your tank needs to be pumped.

WHEN THE TOP OF THE SLUDGE LAYER IS WITHIN 12" OF THE BOTTOM OF THE OUTLET, THE TANK SHOULD BE PUMPED.

To check the sludge level, wrap a rag around the bottom 3 feet of the 6' pole and fasten it with tape. Push the towel down to the bottom of the tank and twirl it. Mark the pole at the ground level. Pull it out after a few minutes and measure the difference between the top of the sludge layer (the top of the black material on the towel) and the bottom of the outlet pipe (marked when you checked the sludge level). If this distance is 12" or less, have your tank pumped.

☆☆☆YOUR SEPTIC TANK☆☆☆

~Where bacteria does its job~

The septic tank is a large, underground, watertight container. All of the wastewater from your toilet, bath, kitchen and laundry flows into the tank. Heavy solids settle to the bottom of the where bacteria reduce them to sludge and gasses. Lighter solids such as grease rise to the top and form a scum layer. Solids that do not decompose remain in the tank. If the solids are not removed by periodic pumping (every 3-5 years), they will accumulate and eventually overflow into the drain field, which can cause extensive damage.

☆☆☆THE DRAIN FIELD☆☆☆

The wastewater that leaves the septic tank is a liquid called effluent. The soil in the drain field provides the final treatment and disposal of the septic tank effluent. The drain field has a network of perforated pipes laid in gravel filled trenches in the soil. The effluent trickles out of the pipes, through the gravel and into the soil.

04/09/2019

The average home with two baths and three occupants will produce over 85,000 gallons of wastewater annually. This is 250 to 300 gallons per day! A septic tank is a living filter that separates scum, solids and pretreats wastewater before it flows out into the drain-field for final purification. It takes 24 to 48 hours for this process. Even a good system not cared for may become a neighborhood health hazard and an expensive problem. Failed systems may cause ground and surface water pollution and costly property damage. It is important to maintain your septic system.

Today was great! The sun was shining, we got a lot of work done, helped a good customer, and I got to spend the day working with my son! He definitely earned that new video game he wanted. He’s already planning his future running this company😄

03/07/2019

We just celebrated 4 years since we started our family business, I remember the day we started Pumperguys like it was yesterday...

We were at the bank withdrawing all the money from our line of credit and the few bucks we managed to scrape together to buy a 25 year old pumper truck. That moment was the most scared I have ever been in my whole life!

Alix was rubbing my back asking me if I was “alright”... I wasn’t!

When I think back to that time I’m so thankful for my strong, loving, understanding wife, family and friends that encouraged and supported me and our family when we needed them the most.

We are very grateful for you our customers who trust us, believe in us, encourage us, support us and who are happy for us.

We are thankful for our employees that are more like family, who have our back, and go above and beyond on a daily basis.

We didn’t start this business to make a pile of money or because we thought it would be easy.

The reason we started this business was to build a better life for our family and the families that work with us.

Our goal is to build a business on trust, integrity, and competence. We feel this is the best way to honour you as our customers.

We know we are not the cheapest pump-truck service. We also know that we will always strive to be true too who we are, live our values and work hard to achieve our goals as a business and as a family.

Thank you for helping us be who we are, and for getting us this far, we owe you, we love you!

03/05/2019

It’s a pretty awesome day, today we hired a new driver, co-worker and friend to work with our company. His name is Jordan if he looks familiar that's because he is Geremys twin brother (Geremy & his wife Sam have been working with us and had our back for the last two years)!

We want to welcome Jordan and his beautiful family to our pumperguys family. From what we’ve seen and heard this is a hard working father and husband. He and his wife Kara have two beautiful children Cater and Chloe. We are grateful to have Jordan join our team & family, we’re look forward to what the future has in store for our company and our families as we work and grow together!
