If you don’t already, get in the routine of asking your patients about ma*****na use. Much like asking about to***co and alcohol use, ideally, this should be part of medical history for adult patients.

Ma*****na use can highten the sedative effects of medications used in IV and general anesthetic dentistry. This can lead to a deeper level of sedation than was intended.

Local anaesthetic, by itself, also increases the heart rate and this effect can be potentiated with the use of ma*****na, leading to increased bleeding during and after oral surgery.
