Calling all Freddies, Jasons, and creature-feature lovers! Just in time for the spoookiest of seasons, we have created a one-of-a-kind birdhouse ( #137!) called "Creature Features!"

Like all our Ferdaberds, this one's all-season, all-weather resistant, fully cleanable and functional (small birds love them).

Featuring vintage buttons, Freddie, Jason, and wood reclaimed from a haunted cabinet. (Bwahahaha)

It can be seen in person at London Underground, 53 Dunlop East, starting on Saturday.

It's time to celebrate witches and all things spooky! This Ferda features iridescent pewter paint -- first time using this finish and it's goooorgeous!! Custom moon, hat, and broom, along with vintage buttons and glass beads (plus a tiny Swarovski crystal on the witch's hat.
Just gotta put a lid on it and it will be for sale! $50 if you're interested. Let me know if you're interested in some Halloween hijinks!

Haven't built too much lately, but here's a sentimental Ferdaberd, recently commissioned to include family watches and Boy Scout medals, and designed to perch upon an heirloom silver tray. It will be used for indoor decor.

Honored to donate two very special birdhouses in support of Ryan's Hope, a local grassroots organization, and its online auction. Ryan's Hope nourishes and advocates for those who are experiencing addiction, homelessness, and mental health issues.

Just a bit of background to the custom work on these, and the messaging associated with their design:

The first one features 'bricks', representing safe space and shelter, and includes words that reflect the good work this organization does in our community. Mother-of-pearl buttons are for the love between a mother and son (Christine and Ryan). Hearts and shamrocks to represent Ryan's family; a butterfly in memory of those lost to addiction and homelessness; cogs and gears to get things moving in our communities, and grass/flowers to represent hope for the future.

The second represents simple love, joy, and growth.

Another nest Ferdaberds! This tall house features a vintage bakelite yellow button that glows like the sun! Perfect spring purple 💜 and Guinness approved.

EVERY FERDABERD HAS A STORY
Some of my friends will recall a video I posted a couple of years ago, in which I was wearing a colorful short trench coat from ZuZu.

I was working there at the time, and I donned it because it was truly one of my favorite things. So many friends said it was truly ‘me’ and I should buy it. Shortly afterwards, I went away on holiday and when I returned, said coat had been sold. I was disappointed until I found out who purchased it—it was a very good friend of the store, someone whose company I enjoy tremendously.

It became an inside joke between us; every time I saw her, I said, ‘when are you going to give me that coat?’ We laughed about it for a year and a half or so, when she finally told me: she’d never even worn it.

I repeated my offer to take it off her hands, and we left it at that.

Not long before ZuZu was to close, in comes my friend—with the fabled coat in her arms. She handed it to me. I was shocked—in fact, I think I began crying—because I never thought she would actually gift it to me. That would be crazy—it’s a beautiful piece of clothing, and it suited both or our personalities. But here she was, suggesting I try it on and make it mine.

If you know this woman, you kind of get it. She’s one of the most generous, most compassionate people I’ve ever met. Yet, despite my friendship with her, I was gobsmacked. I asked her if I could pay her for it. No, she replied. Well, what can I do to repay you? I asked. Just enjoy it, she said.

So I did. And I do. And I knew what I’d do.

I’d surprise her with a Ferdaberd that resembled the treasure she gifted me with. And here it is.

She’s not on Facebook, so she won’t see this. It’s still going to be a big surprise. I think I’ll show up wearing the coat, holding her “Coat of Many Colors” Ferdaberd in my arms. I think it turned out pretty well, and I can’t wait to see the look on her face!

Time to check and clean out your Ferdaberds! Here are our two front-yard Ferdas...one full of twigs, and the other packed tight with pet hair and moss bits. THAT'S why we toss our pet hair outside. The birds LOVE it for their nests, and Sunny wonders why it smells a little like him!

We debuted four new FERDABERDS at the Barrie Baycats game last evening! We have some custom orders on their way, but these ones are for sale! Two Baycats-themed houses, one pink (small) and one pewter (large), plus a cheery yellow island theme (small) and a large flower-filled bright green.

When we finally made it back to Roatan this year, my early-morning walks took me from Half Moon Cay out to the quiet beach between West End and Luna Beach. Each day, I picked up something interesting-- shells, mosaic tiles, and bits of glass and stone.

We found a Roatan 'license plate' in a local shop, and now we have a Ferdaberd featuring some of our tiny treasures. The print features the Beach House at Half Moon Cay, our first home away from home in West End.

I love these little 'fields of grass'...
They are for two custom Ferdaberds and the flower colors match their respective designs. They are a little time-consuming and fidgety to create but the end result always makes my heart happy.
