Calling all earth fans: MEC’s latest sustainability report is here. This annual progress report lets us look back on the work we’ve done last year and see where we need to improve. ♻️

Stuff we’re stoked on:
👉 For the second year in a row, MEC decreased our total GHG emissions
👉 MEC Label more than doubled the percentage of recycled nylon in our products
👉 We saw a significant increase in brand partners who are tracking their GHG emissions and are setting goals to reduce them

2023 also presented a tough lesson: MEC missed our annual recycled content goal. While we’re disappointed we didn’t quite get there, we’ve got next year’s goals ahead of us, and we’re not stopping now.

Founded in 1994, The Association of Bow Valley Area Rockclimbers () raises funds to help put up new climbing routes, repair worn gear and provide resources for climbers in the Bow Valley and adjacent areas.

Happy Global Climb Day! As much as we love flashing a route or the view from a portaledge, our favourite thing about climbing is the incredible community.

We’re proud to be the destination for Candian climbers since we hit the scene in the early 70s, providing top-tier gear for crags and gyms, cleaning up our beloved trails, championing new brands and working with pro climbers from across the country. We’ve also been giving back to the outdoor community since 1987, and we’ll continue to support organizations in their quest to get more people outside.

Thanks for everything, and we’ll see you on the crag. 🧗

Founded in 1995, Climbers’ Access Society of BC (CASBC) works hard to protect access and conservation of all climbing areas in British Columbia.  
 
By working with local climbing orgs like they channel funds for access infrastructure, provide legal and business advise, develop and share best practices guidelines and aid and assist in any way to ensure the crags, cliffs and mountains remain accessible.

Were you one of the thousands of people who dropped off their old socks at MEC last April during Earth Month? 🧦♻

It ended up being a huge sock-cess (sorry), with ’s Second Cut Project™ recycling and turning them into brand new gear like the 2nd Cut Crew Socks, made from circular yarn from a 50-50 blend of sock waste and responsibly sourced Merino wool. This project has kept over 24,900kg (55,000 lb.) of material out of landfills.

"Saturna island is by far my favorite of the southern Gulf Islands.
Maybe because it’s the one that has the longest ferry ride from Victoria, and who doesn’t love one of those BC ferry journey?!

And also this island has it all. Viewpoints, quiet and scenic roads, clear blue water beach, hills, peacefull campground, lovely community.

It’s a short trip from Victoria, but a perfect place to recharge my batteries. And as a quick, safe and easy trip from home, it makes a perfect summer week end.

No need to pack much, and the MEC Provicincial series is a perfect set up for the long and sweet summer nights. "
